It’s just nice to have multiple teams with a promising future. And rivalries that still matter.Attached FilesLast edited by Keirik; 05-26-2023, 01:41 AM.Yankees, Manchester United, Chicago Bears, New York RangersComment

Re: 2022-23 English Football Thread
Either Coventry City or Luton Town is headed back to the top flight. I had no idea until I read about the Championship playoff final today. Long absences for both.
Edit: Too bad the Sunderland 'Til I Die documentary wasn't still running. The emotions after Sunderland blew a one-goal lead and lost 2-0 to Luton Town in the second leg of their playoff would have been must watch TV.Last edited by bhurst99; 05-26-2023, 01:29 PM.Comment

Re: 2022-23 English Football Thread
Toney got suspended for only half a season and 50K quid for 200+ gambling offences, including betting against Brentford at least 13x?? I'm almost starting to feel sorry for Pete Rose.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. For context, it's worth noting that when he bet against Brentford he was not even in the squad. Unlike a manager, he'd have no influence on the outcome of the match.Comment

He’d still have inside information on stuff like tactics, lineups, etc…
Idk how I’d feel if I was one of his teammates. Probably pissed off tbh

Re: 2022-23 English Football Thread
My point was I don't think it makes sense to mention Rose in the same sentence, who made bets when managing a team. Huge difference between having the info, and being the one who is creating situations which the info is based on.Comment

I guarantee this stuff gets way worse than what we are hearing about. This is the stuff the leagues/competitions are OK with us knowing lol. And I doubt they are investigating as deeply as they should be. They're making too much money off of these partnerships now.Comment

Re: 2022-23 English Football Thread
What's interesting is that there are reports stating he originally denied having a gambling addiction. But when it came down to his punishment, he said he did, so he could receive a shorter ban if he went to treatment.Comment

Re: 2022-23 English Football Thread
Not trying to defend Rose here, he deserved what he got. And yes, I'm aware that as manager, even wagering on your team to win could result in long-term damage to his squad, misusing pitchers, etc. It's just shocking that Toney got off so lightly.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Re: 2022-23 English Football Thread
Calling it an addiction for sure shifts the conversation away from a potentially bigger problem by focusing it on one person's mental health struggles. But problem gamblers would arguably be a bigger threat to the integrity of the sport, so idk.Comment

I mean tbf, doing something repeatedly that could have drastic long term effects on your career and personal life is pretty much the textbook definition of addiction.Comment

Re: 2022-23 English Football Thread
For sure, but if the punishment is lessened because you reverse your previous stance…not a fan.
Based on the extent of bets he made, the help for gambling addiction should’ve been required and paired with any punishment—not used in conjunction with a lessened punishment.Comment
