Spurs should have signed Van Bommel on a free while they had the chance. With Modric nicked he would have been ample cover plus bring a bit of toughness to their side.

The entire medical staff of the league is happy they did not.

They will be hard pressed to finish in the top 4 this season
Was listening to a podcast (can't remember which one) and the guy on there suggested that Spurs made offers for big players only for the sake to raise the price of the player with no intention of actually buying a big name.

That could be very true indeed. I also heard they lowballed Everton for Phil Neville. I honestly thought Carroll would go to them.

Probably true for the non English players but I guarantee that old uncle Harry was just itching to overpay for a couple of decent English players.

To Everton? The problem with that is that Everton doesn't have money to spend on players. Does anyone know how much they were paid for Pienaar?

EDIT: I saw 3 million pounds for Pienaar. Not exactly a huge financial windfall.

£3 million for Pienaar. £35 million for Carroll. Brilliant.

To Spurs. Everton don't have any money although I must wonder where all the cash they got for Lescott went.

No doubt who got the better deal between those two. 3 million for Pienaar is a steal.

Was his contract about to be up?

Yup and he said he wouldn't sign an extension.

Everton were lucky to get anything for him then. Context is everything in what is paid for a player.

Unless you're talking about Andy Carroll.

I hope he does well for you guys as out of all of the big 6 clubs (yes, now I am calling them the big 6), Liverpool is my least hated. I don't care if the guy scores 40 goals a year. That signing is probably the most mind boggling signing I've seen since I've been following the sport.

Reports in Spain have it that Atletico Madrid GK David De Gea has a €20 million deal with Manchester United in place.

Don't you EVER read my blog? It's gotten a lot better.

Good. I was thinking you'd sign a really big name, so I can live with this.

I'll believe it when it's announced by Man. United/SAF.

I'm still hoping we sign someone with more experience (Neuer/Akinfeev) though. I'd put Llorris in there but he's not been as strongly linked to United unlike Arsenal have been.
