Re: The Transfer Thread
I said it a few weeks ago, it seems Barca have continued on with this as there is some feeling that Cesc is supposed to go there, even if it's the wrong move for Barca, which it is. Their bidding further illustrates how they really don't seem to be that interested. They'd like him, but in October if he's not there, they won't be kicking themselves. They won't even notice.
Just another reason he may still be in London this year. Plus, training with the side again today and could play Saturday against Benfica.Comment

Re: The Transfer Thread
At this point, it's literally a silly and wasted purchase. You do not need him, at all and have even called him your "second choice" for this Summer. You being Barca, not you.

What I wanted this summer was a no non-sense CB or a tall CF. As good as Barca is offensively, they are terrible at corners because of their height.Comment

Re: The Transfer Thread
Exactly, they just want him just to have Cesc back. I don't want him here. He would be a waste of money and for him a waste of time. Now don't get me wrong, I'll like Cesc's game. He's a good player but he's not a good fit nor a need for Barca. Xavi, Iniesta, and Pep will not bench Busquets for Cesc. This is why he couldn't crack Spain's rotation and the same will happen in Barca. Sure Busquets could move into the CB role that Pep has been doing but I prefer not to see him there.

If Xavi was several years older or gone, Cesc is your man to stick in that spot and the team would play the same. But now, it's a ton of money just for some publicity and inevitably, I feel Cesc would say he'd like to play. If there's one thing that is obvious is he's a competitor. He wants to play when he has a fracture in his leg, so he'll want to play when he's healthy and on the bench as well.Comment

Re: The Transfer Thread
It's about depth in the squad.
With Cesc at Barca, their star midfielders (Xavi, Iniesta) can get more rest and play better.
Xavi and Iniesta are a year older and of course they can still play but it also helps to have a very capable Fabregas playing with them.
If Barca gets an injury to one of the star midfielders, they have another just as capable midfielder to step up, no loss in ability.
Very important when you have to play so many league, cup and UCL games.
Cant really say the same for many other teams where an injury to a star midfielder means a lot of damage(i.e. Arsenal).
Besides, they still get paid the same whether they sit on the bench or play.
I wish Barca looked at things as logically as you just did.
