Re: 3-Click is the new sim mode (Rory PGA)

Ha! Total vindication for us 3-click holdouts! Now where's my metamucil?

So I detailed my thoughts on this in a prior post somewhere in a another thread, but I don't think that 3-click is in any way a more 'primitive' or less realistic interface for a video game golf input. I would actually argue that in many ways, it's more realistic than an analog swing. Without re-hashing my entire post, I think that a golf swing is basically about timing and precision, and that is pretty much what 3-click is all about. Analog swings superficially 'seem' more realistic because there's a back-and-forth nature to them, but given how loose/imprecise analog sticks are (it's really not a 1:1 motion by any stretch) and the fact that there's no real 'timing' involved, as well as the complete inability to differentiate between a 50% and 75% swing (which in real life is clearly obvious), I think 3-click is at least as reasonable, if not moreso, of an interface for a golf game as is an analog back/forth.

Re: 3-Click is the new sim mode (Rory PGA)

I'm glad I checked this thread. I was feeling guilty about going back to 3-click. I haven't played a golf game in a few years. I tried the analog and it just didn't feel right. I always try to keep up with all the improvements on games though because I don't want to be the old guy who can't get with the times.

Also...I've only been playing for a couple days so I didn't know I could change the settings. Thank God because with the default I was shooting -40 for tournaments. Going to turn off zoom and the green thing.

Is there a way to increase the inaccuracy of mis-hits? I still seem to drive the ball straight down the fairway even when I miss my target line by a good margin.

Change the swing difficulty to Expert. Almost perfect this way.

With 3 clicks I have fear when there is water on the sides of fariway.
Without any doubt this is the most challenging mode.

Yes and no....TOUR Custom with all aids off and grids off is just as challenging IMO for different reasons.

If EA would allow us to play Classic Custom Online tournaments, that is probably the mode I would play most unless the new TOUR swing improvements coming out make me sweat every shot like 3-click Custom does.....

Challenge is up for debate, based on user skill, but what you describe with worrying about hazards, makes it the most realistic. It is awesome that the devs didn't treat this as a throw away mode and makes offline play an absolute blast.

Re: 3-Click is the new sim mode (Rory PGA)

The 3-click is tough for sure. I might try my last 5 tournaments of Year 2 with it then wait and see what updates might actually show up for this game. Probably none, but I'll give it a chance.

I have to ask, how in the world do you putt without the green grid or the beads on? We're trying to read a 3-dimensional concept on a 2-dimensional screen.
