Re: Rory McIlroy PGA Tour

Just about all customers using pros are either arcade or casuals, they have no idea if it's the pro real swing or not. As soon as they buy the game, arcade players are going at each other head to head. They don't take weeks to build a profile golfer looking as themselves, they're just using a pro.

This is a good point.

Re: Rory McIlroy PGA Tour

I have to admit, I'm one of those that doesn't care at all about the Pro's and will never play as them or with them - basically ever.

I care about seeing their names on the leaderboard when competing against them in tournaments --- but that's about it.

I will certainly "enjoy" them being there and looking correct I suppose.

It's actually just been so long since I've done traditional career mode stuff (like 6 years) that all of that type of play will feel fresh and brand new again to me when this releases next year.

Maybe I will care about Pro's again then?

I think more people would recognize/appreciate the difference in pro's swings than you might guess. You're almost certainly correct that most people probably wouldn't be able to pick out the difference between Justin Rose and Adam Scott's swings (both of which are poetry in motion, by the way), but I think a lot of people would notice if Matthew Wolff didn't have his trademark crazy 'man being tazed by a state trooper' swing motion or if Bryson didn't have his awkward looking over-the-top power swing.

After all, most people couldn't tell the difference between Steph Curry and Dame Lillard's jump shot motions, but that doesn't mean it's not widely appreciated that NBA 2K bothered to give players individual shot animations. It definitely adds to the experience.

The majority of those guys have no idea who is Matthew Wolff, you have to follow the PGA for that. They know Furyk, he was in many TW games. The only reason they would know Bryson, he's in the news all the time with the reputation of being the longest hitter on tour. The majority of those casuals and arcade players would play as him, just to hit it as long as he is. I've read so many of those guys in the past, they're not even golfer, they're gamers just liking golf games.

That may be true, but I still don't see that as a reason not to mo-cap their swings. They don't have to get the actual guys to mo-cap the swings - just someone who can do a good impression of them. It's not like 2K gets every guy in the league to mo-cap their jump shots, they have a few dudes that can imitate a lot of different jump shots and dunk motions and just mo-cap them. I'm sure they could find 1 guy who can imitate a lot of different distinctive swings and just use him.

Golf swings are really distinctive; for pro golfers, it's basically the most distinctive or uniquely identifying thing about them. I think most people, even casuals, would realize something was "off" if Arnold Palmer was in the game and he had a generic tour swing (as opposed to his distinctive 'helicopter' finish), even if it didn't bother them per se. From my perspective, if you're going to bother to have pros in the game, you might as well get their swings in there too (to the extent possible).

It also has the added benefit of having a bunch of possible swings in the game so even if you are using your own created player, he could have Freddie Couples' swing if you wanted them to. Similar to how your create-a-player in 2K can have Dirk Nowitzki's jump shot motion, for example.

Gotta have the pros real swings, or at least something to differentiate. It creates authenticity, we have that many arcade golf games out there for the casual crowd.

Re: Rory McIlroy PGA Tour

Having real PGA tour players is fairly important to me. I'm a big fan of the PGA tour and it's cool to see these guys in game. I can see why that's not important to some. There will be people who play the game that don't know much about pro golf. Having their real swings in the game would certainly make it authentic. They can have these guys in the studio and do like some mocap stuff I'd think.
