Re: Andrew Dellapina's Story (NHL 09: Be A Pro)
Wolf Pack--3 Chops--0
*** I’m standing there in the tunnel. As we come out onto the ice the crowd goes wild. Sure, it’s not a huge crowd, but it’s bigger than anything I’ve ever played for. I can also see them all without a wire grid obstructing my view. I look around and find my linemates, Lauri Korpikoski, my Left Winger, who’s knack is for putting the puck in the net, and Cory Urquhart, a Grinder who’d rather put my enemies on the ice.
The game begins and we're stuck in the defensive zone. Finally our goalie forces a faceoff, and we get a chance to break out of our own end. Urquhart wins it back to the D, who slings it up to my stick as I'm shooting down the right boards. I come in on the opposing defense, pull off a toe drag, and hand the puck off to Korpikoski, who shoots the puck top left, right past the goalie! Only my first shift, and I already have an assist! This is gonna be a lot easier than I thought it was. The rest of the period ends without much more, even though I was playing great, generating chances on offense and I was in position on defense.
I started the period off with a great shot that almost scored, and I've been continuing to keep up physical pressure, hitting whenever I can and letting my opponents know that I'm there. However, I am not dangling as successfully as I'm used to, and I need to find a better way to get around these guys.
The third period was beginning pretty uneventfully for me, until I grew very tired and so I dump the puck off to a teammate and get off the bench. Callahan then gets the puck in the slot and scores, giving me my second assist of the night, and our team a 2-0 lead over the Iowa Chops.
The other team's captain gets a tripping call, and I'm put out on the PP line. I don't do much aside from a shot or two, and I come off the ice. With 23 seconds, Boguniecki gets the Tripping call again. Somehow, I MISSED an empty net goal from the top of the circle, and it counts as a third assist, this time to Joe Barnes, who puts it in to effectively end the game. With 3 seconds left, I hop back on the ice, get the puck from my teammate in the corner, and ALMOST score again, but to no avail, as the goalie turns me aside with less than 2 seconds left.
At the end of the game, I was amazed to find that I was the 1st Star of the game! We all went out to celebrate, even the coaches, and everybody congratulated me and started a pool on how long they thought it would take for me to get to the pros.
