QUICK, KINGS SHUTDOWN WINGS, TAKE 2-1 SERIES LEAD

Fourth liner Wayne Simmonds scored the game winning goal shorthanded for the Kings

The Kings came out on top Saturday afternoon at "The Joe" in Detroit, as they shut down the Red Wings in a defensive battle, 2-1. The story of the net was rookie netminder Jonathan Quick, who showed everyone why he's a favorite to win both the Vezina and the Calder trophies this year, stopping 26 of 27 shots. Rookie fourth liner Wayne Simmonds scored the game winning goal shorthander, forcing a turnover at the Kings' blue line and scoring on Osgood on a brekaway. Frolov scored once, as well, while Derek Roy, Drew Doughty, and Kyle Quince each got 1 assist. Game 4 will take place Monday night at The Joe Louis Arena, and the Wings will be hoping to tie the series up at two.

KINGS SHUTOUT WINGS, TAKE COMMAND OF SERIES

Jonathan Quick posted his first career playoff shutout Monday night, stopping all 30 shots.

The KIngs cruised to victory Monday night in Detroit, Michigan, as they shutout the Red Wings 3-0. Jay Bouwmeester tallied the first goal of the game with an assist, as well, while steaming hot goaltender Jonathan Quick stopped all 30 shots faced. Although, the Kings have won their last 3 playoff appearances, shot totals have been a problem, as they have been outshout by at least 10 shots in all of their last three games. Brian Boyle, Derek Roy, Oscar Moller, and Teddy Purcell all tallied 1 assist, while Nikita Filatov got an empty netter, and Kyle Calder also scored a goal. The series moves back to Los Angeles for Game 5, which will be in elimination game, as the Kings now have a 3-1 series lead.
