JOKINEN DEALT TO WINGS FROM FLAMES

Detroit ~ With Nicklas Lidstrom finding his groove and Chris Osgood continuing his dominance over the NHL from the comforts of his crease, General Manager Ken Holland of the Detroit Red Wings struck up a trade with the Calgary Flames that can easily be deemed "sketchy" by most fans.

"I took it as the biggest surprise of my career" said Red Wings defensemen Brian Rafalski, who now is packing his bags and heading to Calgary after the deal was announced. The Red Wings have traded defensemen Brian Rafalski, their 1st round pick and their 2nd round pick, all for, Olli Jokinen? Wait, this has to be a joke, right?

Dead Wrong.

Many fans believe that the Red Wings were much to hasty in moving the veteran defensemen and most likely, Captain of Team USA in the upcoming Olympics in Vancouver. But the deal has been done and Olli Jokinen is on a plane to Detroit. He has been entered into the lineup and will play his first game of the year with the Wings against the Dallas Stars. Jokinen will most likely be playing behind centers Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg on the depth chart.

Brian Rafalski will most likely be taking up residence on the starting defensive line with the Calgary Flames, which boast a powerful lineup of Jay Bouwmeester, Robyn Regehr, Cory Sarich, and now, Brian Rafalski. The Flames had already made a trade during the off-season that saw them trade defensive phenom Dion Phaneuf to the Toronto Maple Leafs, who joined a defensive corp that included Tomas Kaberle, Luke Schenn and Mike Komisarek.

The Detroit Red Wings will not pair Captain Nicklas Lidstrom with Niklas Kronwall, the hard-hitting defensive has already had some penalty killing time with Lidstrom, so the transittion won't be as hard as it usually is. Derek Meech or Brett Lebda will most likely be entering the Red Wings lineup.
