PENGUINS SHOW PONI THE DOOR

At the beginning of the 2010 NHL Draft in Los Angeles, California was when General Manager Jason Skyland contacted winger Alexei Ponikarovsky and defensemen Sergei Gonchar about re-signing contracts, wanting to get a fast start on the off-season, he contacted Sergei Gonchar first, who was glad to get the call so early, he was at the time, in a Pittsburgh airport, flying home to Russia with his family. He had set a date for his return for which him and his agent could negotiate a contract, Gonchar said he'd like 2-3 years.

Next up, was Alexei Ponikarovsky, who was heading home to the Ukraine as well, wanting to visit him parents with his wife. Skyland thought he sounded a bit frustrated, and was stunned when Alexei responded with a flat out "No". Alexei Ponikarovsky was done playing for the Penguins.

He argued that he didn't get enough ice time, which was weird, as he played on the second line with Evgeni Malkin and Michael Cammaleri. Despite Skyland's valid points, Ponikarovsky and his wife agreed they would like to move elsewhere, and would not accept any amounts of money Skyland was willing to offer.

Other players who declined an offer was enforcer Matt Cooke and AHLer Chris Lee, who were un-satisfied with their ice time. Chris Lee will most likely, not be missed, as he had 3 points in 72 games as an offensive defensemen, ecspecially with a promising crop of defensemen in the draft. Matt Cooke was a clutch player but his high amount of penalty minutes, many that cause Penguins valuable games, can be replaced, by PIM leader Daniel Carcillo, a player most likely becoming a UFA from the last place Philadelphia Flyers.
