Matt Bartkowski Promoted

Boston (AP) - In an effort to shake up the struggling defensive pairing of Hunwick-Boychuk (-7 each), the Bruins have recalled rookie Matt Bartkowski from Providence, and sent Adam McQuaid down. Hunwick remains with the Bruins due to his 1 way contract, but is the likely candidate to be a healthy scratch for the time being.

Bartkowski, 22, was the Bruins final cut from camp after being very impressive in preseason action. Bartkowski is said to be a gritty player with a big shot and is more than willing to play physical and is a tremendous open ice hitter. The biggest concern with him is his skating ability.

Also of note, is that the Bruins are rumored to have offered veteran defenseman Jay McKee a contract. McKee led the Penguins in shot blocking and is renowned for his shot blocking ability, but also for his lack of skating ability and injury proneness. He has a tendency to wear down over the course of the season to the point of not being useful. The B's, however, are still interested regardless in adding his shot blocking ability to the fray.

The Bruins return to action on Saturday in Ottawa. Tim Thomas is expected to be between the pipes for that one.

Nice to see the Krejci line performing to par, and Patrice Bergeron has been solid in the last few games.

Thomas is playing well, and it may be worth it to play him in a few more games to see if he's just getting by on luck. Hope to see Seguin continue playing solid.

Bruins Sign McKee

Boston (AP) - The Bruins have announced today that they have signed veteran defenseman Jay McKee. As per team policy, financial details remain undisclosed.

McKee, 33, spent the 2009-2010 season with the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he blocked 137 shots in 62 games. The veteran is well known for his shot blocking ability. The Bruins have brought him in hopes of making sure all three defensive pairings are solid.

Concerns among the fans are that McKee disappeared in the final half of the season last year with injuries, and was so unproductive toward the end of the year that he could barely skate, let alone contribute, and only saw action in 5 of the Penguins playoff games. The B's, however, are confident that he can remain healthy. Worst case scenario, Hunwick fills in, or Bartkowski gets called bacup. Low risk/High reward.

McKee will wear #74, and is expected to play Tuesday against the Sabres.

Tuukka Rask is slated to be between the pipes despite his recent poor performances. Julien continues to show faith in his #1 man, but he has to be feeling the heat of Tim Thomas' strong play.
