Simmonds assigned to AHL, Stoll cleared

(Los Angeles, CA) -- The Los Angeles Kings have received some very good news as both Wayne Simmonds and Jarret Stoll have been cleared to play by the medical staff.

Simmonds has been assigned to the Kings AHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs, while Stoll will join the Kings once again for their home stand, continuing with a game of the Toronto Maple Leafs

It has been speculated that Simmonds might spend the rest of the season in the AHL after the impressive playing of both Oscar Moller and Bud Holloway this season.

"Honestly, we don't want to break any of the chemistry the team has right now by taking someone out who has been playing great as of late, and put in a player that's coming back from a pretty long time out from an injury. It just wouldn't be fair on either side." said GM Dean Lombardi.

In 24 games this season, Simmonds has registered five goal and one assist for six points.

Stoll leads Kings to win over Leafs

Bud Holloway scores against J.S. Giguere and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

1/10/11

(Los Angeles, CA) -- In his first game back with the Los Angeles Kings after being sidelined for 10 games with a hip injury, Jarret Stoll made an impact as he tallied two goals and an assist as the Kings defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-1.

Stoll scored his seventh goal of the season in his first game back in the lineup at 4:41 of the second period with Jack Johnson and Alexei Ponikarovsky earning the assists.

Willie Mitchell and Jarret Stoll teamed up to earn the assists on Justin Williams ninth goal of the season at 18:25 to give the Kings a 2-0 lead.

Stoll added his second of the night on a breakaway run at 5:22, on an unassisted play that saw the Kings take complete control over the game.

Toronto did manage to get a consolation goal a minute later at 6:22 with Fredrik Sjostrom scoring for the Leafs, as he took a swipe at the puck in front of net, beating Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick on the glove side.

Rookie Bud Holloway continued his great stint with the Kings as he scored his sixth goal of the season at 9:05 to regain the three goal lead for Los Angeles and secure the 4-1 victory.

After spending the better part of December out of the lineup, Jarret Stoll was pushing himself to recover earlier than expected, but knew he had to take his time.

"After an injury like that, you tend to feel fine after a few days and when I felt good I just wanted to get back to playing, but it wasn't going to happen. My hip wasn't feeling good enough to skate so I stayed off it as much as possible which really sucks because I wanted to get out and play again."

Kings head coach Terry Murray had a difficult decision to make before the start of the game, sitting out winger Scott Parse as a healthy scratch to make room for Stoll.

"It was definitely a hard decision to make tonight, I hate taking a player that's been pulling his weight and playing for the team out of the lineup like that, but it was something that had to be done. For the time being, Scott will stick with the Kings, I don't plan on having him move down to Manchester."

Re: Los Angeles Kings dynasty (BAGM NHL11)

Berglund, Blues sink Kings

1/13/2011

(Los Angeles, CA) -- A rather dismal performance from Jonathan Quick in the first period, allowing three goals, was all that the St. Louis Blues needed as they earned a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings.

Patrik Berglund and Brad Winchester scored back to back goals within 1:40 of each other to give the Blues a 2-0 lead.

Berglund's goal came early on at the four minute mark on the Blues first shot on goal with Brad Boyes and Carlo Colaiacovo earning the assists.

Boyes earned his second assist while Berglund earned his second point of the night as Brad Winchester scored at 5:40 to give the Blues an early 2-0 lead, scoring two goals on their first two shots on goal.

BJ Crombeen added the third of the night for St. Louis after he tipped the puck into the net after Jonathan Quick let it slip past his pads and right behind him.

Los Angeles tried to fight back during the remainder of the game and managed to score a consolation goal in the third period with Alexei Ponikarovsky scoring his 15th goal of the season at 7:11 on an unassisted play.

Kings head coach Terry Murray was disappointed on his team's performance and made it clear during the post game interviews.

"We clearly were out of the game from the start. We weren't playing like a team out there, they were scrambled around, not holding a position or even the puck long enough to make a chance happen."

Jaroslav Halak made 11 saves tonight against the Kings while Quick managed to make 13 saves from a total of 15 shots taken by St. Louis.

Bernier shines in Kings victory

1/15/2011

(Los Angeles, CA) -- Rookie Jonathan Bernier took a step forward in a possible Calder trophy nomination as he earned his first shutout of the season tonight, making 13 saves as the Kings defeated the Edmonton Oilers, 3-0.

Jack Johnson scored the first goal for the Kings in the second period, with his eighth at 16:08 on an unassisted play for the single goal lead.

Fellow defenseman and leading scorer Drew Doughty scored his 18th goal of the season on the powerplay at 4:42 with Dustin Brown earning the lone assist on the goal.

Brown added his own goal late in the game as Edmonton pulled goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin for the extra attacker in the final minute of the game.

His 15th goal of the season came after a scramble in the neutral zone that ended with Anze Kopitar and Ryan Smyth making passes to connect with Brown for the 3-0 victory.

Bernier earned the third star of the game for his performance tonight, while Dustin Brown and Jack Johnson earned the first and second stars, respectively.
