Av's 2011-2012 launch party mega update!
Media Conference with GM Steve Pattenden
"Hello and welcome back everyone, it's been a quick turn around and were back at it. I must first apologize for the media black out of sorts, I have been behind closed doors since our exit to Vancouver, working hard on strategies for the rookie draft and the opening of free agency.
Before I move forward with what has transpired on those events I would first like to back track a little and one last time say thank you to all of the fans who keep this effort going, and also thank you to everyone who was here for that fantastic year we had. We left the playoffs earlier then any of us would have liked, but we left with a sense of pride and accomplishment, with heads held high and the hunger to return.
During the off season and right up until the Rookie draft floor was opened I had been speaking with fellow GM's that had high round picks, and as I had eluded to last year multiple times I had a specific player I was chasing a specific plan I had laid out to follow, and it was executed. The price? it was high but I believe the return to be greater.
speaking as such let me break down the trade
Colorado trades:
2011 1st round pick (COL) 2011 3rd round pick (COL) 2011 4th round pick (COL)
TO Minnesota for:
2011 1st round pick (MIN)
Yes this was expensive, but it gave me a 100% chance to get the guy I have had my eye on, and had intensive scouting done on all year. My scouting team and I had this young man pegged Earlie was a crucial factor to our immediate success.
With this trade completed, and the picks I had moved earlier to beef up the team for a playoff drive that left us with only a second round pick remaining. so it was a fast draft day for us here in Colorado but it was a very productive one
Colorado Drafts:
D Adam Larsson 18 years old 6'3" 220 LBS right handed shot OFD 69 overall A-/A/A- potential first round first overall selection.
Adam is a perfect fit for what we need the most right now, a smooth skating offensive dfensemen. It just happens that Adam is a complete package with high upside and a large frame that he likes to use.
In the second round 49th overall Colorado selects Artem Sergeev. a 6'1" 205 pound offensive defensemen
While Artem may not have as much upside as Adam does, we believe he will have a good chance to blossom in our excellent youth program.
Resign phase:
If you all remember I spoke about a tough time ahead, this is where it began. with more then half of the club on expiring contracts and many of which didn't fit the outlook that I have for our blossoming club. As such I would like to thank these guys for the time they put in with us here in Colorado the effort they gave and hard work they put in was impeccable.
