The 2011-2012 National Hockey League season is upon us, with just a little over a month until opening night. With a new season comes new hope for teams that fell just short the previous year and for teams looking to end several years of losing seasons. The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2004. The days of Sundin,Tucker,Kaberle,McCabe,Joesph and Moligny are long over, the rebuilding period is in the rearview mirror, with additions of Kessel,Phaneuf,Macarthur,Lupul,Liles and Connolly and young guns Schenn,Reimer,Kadri,Gardiner and Colborne the time is now to end an over 7 year drought. The 2011-2012 Toronto Maple Leaf season will mark the return of the playoffs.

Aww Ya James reimer baby!!! Trade Jonas Gustavsoon away, he's not a good goalie imo. Trade him for Robin Lehner. High Potential goalie

Leafs Shake Things up

The Toronto Maple Leafs have made a trio of trades today. The trades seem to be primary for cap room. The Leafs began the season with very little cap room, after today they have lots of room to work with. Many may speculate these moves are only to set up a bigger move later down the road. Lets take a look at how each trade breaks down.

Toronto Trades:
F Colton Orr

To Phoenix for:
2012 4th round pick (phx)

Toronto Trades:
D Mike Komisarek

To Detroit for:
F Tomas Holmstrom
2012 7th round pick (Det)

Toronto Trades:
F Matthew Lombardi
G Jonas Gustavsson

To Minnesota for:
G Josh Harding
2012 3rd round pick (Min)

So there you have, as you can see the leafs have cleared a lot of money off their roster,they now have 11.787M in cap space. In return they add to their draft picks and bring in two players that can help them right now. With Rumors circulating everyday that the leafs are in talks for players like Bobby Ryan,Zach Praise,Kyle Okposo and Sam Gagner, one can only assume that these trades are to make room for a big name player. If this is actually the case, only time will tell.
