Re: Starstruck - A NHL 15 Dallas Stars BaGM
STARS SHINING BRIGHTLY 1 MONTH INTO THE SEASON
November 2nd, 2014
Associated Press NHL.com
After a slow start, the Stars have come together quickly as a team and are now one of the NHL's hottest teams. Ending the month of October with 3 consecutive shutouts and currently sits tied with Chicago for first place in the Western Conference.
The teams recent hot streak can be attributed to changes implemented by Head Coach Lindy Ruff, along with the elevated play of Jamie Benn and Kari Lehtonen. After a 3 game losing streak, Ruff moved Jason Spezza up to the first line to play with Chernov and Benn. The move opened up a lot more space for Benn, and he has taken advantage of the situation to continue his hot start. Benn is currently riding a 10 game point streak, registering 12 Goals and 14 Assists along the way.
By moving Seguin to the 2nd line, Ruff can now get balanced scoring as both of the top 2 lines are a threat to score every night. Seguin has also been hot in the most recent games registering 2 goals and 3 assists in his last 4 games. The Stars have also been getting secondary scoring from their 3rd line all season, as Cody Eakin, Eric Cole and Antoine Roussel have been a very effective checking line.
Along with Benn, Goaltender Kari Lehtonen has also elevated his play this year and has been remarkable in net. Lehtonen, has always been a workhorse in net and is usually at his best when he plays frequently. So far this year, Lehonton has started in 9 of the 10 games played. He benefited the most when Coach Ruff adjusted the team strategies to limit shots on net, as Lehtonen set a team record by recording 3 consecutive shutouts and going 185 minutes without conceding a goal. Currently this season, Lehtonen has 6 wins with a 2.25 GAA and a 0.922 SV with 4 shutouts.
If there is some room for improvement, it will be on special teams. The Stars currently rank 27th on the Penalty Kill with a 78.2% efficiency. With the teams offence and defence working, expect Coach Ruff to make changes in this department. The Power Play has also struggled at recent times but still ranks 16th in the league at 18.6%.
