PRESS RELEASE

Canucks trade Nilsson to Lightning; call up Demko


In a surprise move, the Vancouver Canucks traded goaltender Anders Nilsson to the Tampa Bay Lightning today.

In return, the Canucks receive a fourth-round pick in 2019 from the Lightning.

"The timing for this trade was perfect," said Canucks General Manger Nolan Reid. "We felt a change of scenery for Nilsson was needed as we just weren't getting the results we expected."

The Canucks also announced they have recalled goaltender Thatcher Demko from the Utica Comets of the AHL.

"Thatcher has been having a great season in the AHL," said Reid. "We feel this is the best time to get him up in the big leagues as him and Jacob are the future of our goaltending."

The Vancouver Canucks (8-11-3) host the Winnipeg Jets (12-6-0) tomorrow night.
