Do you hire/fire you scouts yearly based on strength of class?

Also when you say "speed/acceleration at elite" do you mean either one or both?

1) Yes. Every season I fire all of my scouts and restart from scratch before I even start looking at the draft class. Unlike OC and DC, there is 0 benefits to keeping your scouts year after year. It is all depends on the strength of class at each position.

2) Both are the two most critical skills (other than at Oline, and somewhat DT/Dline). I would say Speed is most important, followed by acceleration, but in general they both line up together for most players.

If Someone is only elite at speed, they will still be considered for me vs. only being elite at acceleration but just great speed (they will most likely not be considered without great other ratings)

Speed > Acceleration.

In any scenario, I'd argue it's nearly impossible to find players with elite speed/acceleration (and no red flag ratings) who aren't hidden development.


You could honestly do what I advised last season before the changes and look solely at people's athletic ratings and still have a 60-70% hit rate at development. In a lot of ways they are a better indicator of hidden development than the actual ratings themselves which are mainly just to find reasons NOT to pick someone.

Sounds like the ratings being included on the main scouting screen speeds up the process a lot this year. After reading through your main post again it seems like your focus is on getting guys with good dev traits? Do those translate to players with good/decent starting OVRs as well? Or does the dev trait increase their growth so much that it's ok if their base OVR is lower?

I want to build my team as organically and realistically as possible so I'm really focused on hitting on my picks in the 2nd-5th rounds to build depth and potential future starters. Does this method help with finding those guys in later rounds?

I did a quick scan of Bengal's draft studs YT video and it seems like there's a lot of guys in the 70s to be found in the later rounds.

I don't think so, there was no option to do it after year 1 of my season.
