I don;t know if that is accurate. We've been playing last gen on PC from Madden 19-23 and the lighting never progressed in realtime there. Can anyone verify if Madden 23 on Xbox of PS4 had realtime progressive lighting?

I don't recall if there was progressive lighting on Madden 23 on Xbox One but definitely on Madden 24 and 25.

Actually, I kind of know why. Last gen used to have even better real time progressive lighting for 1pm games than they do now. They changed it because of some people whining that the shadows made MUT harder to play. Still annoyed about that, 6 years later. I'm willing to bet current gen never sees the level of lighting that last gen had, because EA loves to cater to the MUT crowd.

Current gen is running a different engine for surroundings/atmosphere than old gen, that’s why it’s not carried over.

You would think new engine = better effects though.

I don't that new engine is the proper term, but with that said, it only means the capability to have better effects, not that there's enough available resources to get it implemented.

To me, it honestly feels like they're setting things up to make the last few years before gen 6 launches excellent. Using the early years to build up a framework that they can use in the future.

SORT of OT but I have some pretty darn good sliders for PS4 Madden25 CPU vs CPU in the OLD GEN area.

Lighting is SWEET - I wonder what I'm missing between PS4 and PS5

Agreed. I was just pointing it out since it’s been on the new engine for a few years now.
