That'll make it a little bit harder to just cut a player before his contract is up.

We removed the bonus rule for one reason: people made so many math mistakes it drove us crazy. It was a headache to keep tabs on.

We have a waiver system so guys can't game the system by cutting and adding a guy. Also when you trade a guy with no bonus you need to find a trade partner with enough cap space to wear 100% of their salary.

Hopefully this system inspires a fun free agency market and doesn't have any exploits.

Re: CFM Offseason House Rule Ideas

Resigning my own players:

-I utilize a 1/3 bonus rule on any contract over 1 year.
-contract years can't exceed what the player is asking for.
-if asking for more than 1 year, contract has to be a minimum of 2 years with appropriate bonus.
-1 year deals get a minimum 750k and 80k-100k (or more) bonus for lower rated players

Signing Free Agents:

-same contract rules apply for FA's that apply for signing FA's
-I don't bid on any 90+ rated players.
-I don't bid on the top FA at each position
-I don't bid on any player over 80 if any cpu team has bid on them (too easy to steal away)

After the draft/Preseason FA's:

-I don't allow myself to "load up" on FA's at the start of preseason
-I don't sign the top FA at each position in preseason week 1 (give the cpu a chance to sign players)
-after week 3 of preseason I can sign any FA's left

Scouting

-scout letter grade only
-for more of a challenge, don't scout the intangible attribute.

Re: CFM Offseason House Rule Ideas

Great house rules suggestions; I may start employing some of these in my Jaguars project. Thank you!

Re: CFM Offseason House Rule Ideas

I've never limited myself on number of moves, but I might do that this year, I think I like that idea.

What I've always done in the past is when resigning a player, in most cases they have to be really good for me to resign them, I'll look at the highest salaries of that position for the league and pay them top 3 money, which is always WAYYY more than they're asking for, but it's at least realistic and put's a bit of a strain on your cap.

And when trading picks use the draft pick value chart for accurate compensation.

Re: CFM Offseason House Rule Ideas

One thing I started doing toward the end of my time with M15 is during the contract negotiation stage, I would never try to drop the number of years the player wanted in contract length.

So if 32 year old Ryan Kalil wants 80 million over 6 years, I can't negotiate that down to 3. I either let him walk or face considerably over-paying the guy in a few years. Makes decisions tougher.

Re: CFM Offseason House Rule Ideas

My only big one is no trading draft picks. It's just too easy to game the AI.

Things like resigning I probably do more than is realistic because I like to have a stable team.
