I love the surprises in the draft classes this year. You're never sure - I drafted a first rd corner who came in as a 76 and I was pretty happy that he'd have that side of the field on lockdown for the foreseeable future... but his develop trait was slow and I'll tell you; I was so happy that the plan was going off the rails and so disappointed in the pick, all at the same time.

With my house rules I wouldn't let myself draft another guy and he started for me all season... and I'm attached to him now but he's just not going to be the guy. I see a few years of nickel and dime work, some kick coverage duty, and then it'll be time to call it a career. Love it.

Restarted with initial roster update. Currently 3-0 on default All Madden with my Bills. After a thrilling 48-42 OT win vs. Baltimore, I have blown out my next two opponents (Jets & Cardinals). Though I did start the game 10-0 vs the Cardinals before scoring 31 unanswered points. I didn't expect it to be a rebuild like most years with the Bills, but man this team is fun to play with. LeSean McCoy might be the MVP when it's all said and done.

Re: How's your CFM going? M17 edition

Years 1-4

Year 5 of Detroit Lions Franchise

Offseason/Draft
Four years of team building has enabled the Lions to shore up a lot of holes, especially on defense. In free agency, we added an important piece to the puzzle in a CB opposite of Darius Slay, Jason Verrett. In the draft, we added some offensive firepower with our first pick, WR Villareal Brazell (80 ovr). We also added a strong safety to pair with our up and coming superstar FS Marcus Williams (now 87 ovr), Pat McKinnon (78ovr).

Regular Season
This Lions team felt like the best yet, as far as assembled talent goes. They had depth at most positions and chemistry to boot. We started out 4-1 with easy victories.

The best game of the year was a rematch against the NYG. We dropped our last two games against the Giants including last years close defeat in the playoffs. It was another competitive game, all the way to the finish. In the mid 4th, we were down 3 deep in the NYG territory. Stafford drops back for a pass and is blindsided and fumbles, recovered by the Giants and returned to midfield before Abdullah has a TD saving tackle. The Lions defense would hold on to give up only a FG, Lions down 30-24. The next possession for us isn't much better as it results in a turnover on downs. We get one more chance with 40 seconds to go in the game and no timeouts. After a first down incompletion, the second down play was a big completion to the 50-yard line. Time is expiring, but Stafford got the team set and hiked the ball with time expiring. He bombs it left to the end zone to Speedy Noil. The ball sailed just out of his reach, but wait, a flag. Defensive pass interference on the Giants. The final play of the game was an untimed down at the 1 yard line. Stafford tossed a pass to Jake Butt on a drag for the TD and tied it up. The PAT was good and we escaped with a win, 31-30.

The Bears continued to be much improved and gave me trouble on the ground in each matchup. They ended up sweeping us. Also, during the year, we started to feel a salary cap squeeze. We had to pay big money to resign some good draft picks and getting a stout corner like Verrett wasn't cheap. I traded off Riddick and several others to open up some cap room.

As the year wound down, the Packers and Lions once again the cream of the crop in the division. But this year, they were also the cream of the crop in the NFC. They had the top two records with the Pack clinching the division and us clinching a playoff birth before Week 17. Starting the backups in Week 17, we still end up with a win and 12-4 overall.

Season Stats and Awards

- Stafford threw for 3800 yards (15th in the NFL), 28 TDs, and 14 INTs
- Abdullah ran for 1200 yards, caught 458 rec yards, and 13 TDs
- Brazell had a big rookie year with 806 yards, 5 TDs, and 53 rec. It was good for 3rd in the offensive rookie of the year race
- Lions ended up 9th in Offense and 2nd in Defense
- Aaron Rodgers has another huge year and takes home the MVP trophy with 4900 yards, 50 TDs, and 15 INTs (Packers went 13-3)

Playoffs
In the Wildcard game, we traveled to one of our least favorite places, Atlanta. We went down big early and could not stop their rushing attack. The Lions fought back valiantly, however, answering score after score. But we couldn't get within 6 points with less than two minutes to go in the game. With our playcalling out of wack (38 passes, 8 rushes), the Falcons defeated us yet again. Freeman had 200 yards on 40 rushes. Stafford ended up with 385 yards and 2 TDs.

The Super Bowl saw the Packers square off against the Ravens. The Ravens had a big year after signing last year's Super Bowl MVP, Jacoby Brissett. It was another great Super Bowl, going into OT. On the opening drive of OT, Jacoby took the Ravens down the field and ended it with a TD. Brissett (328 yards, 4 TDs) and JuJu Smith-Schuster (142 yards, 3TDs) were co MVPs. Aaron Rodgers had 3 TDs and 1 INT with 317 yards in another Super Bowl loss.

Serious question how do some of you guys stop yourself from getting bored? I love sim and play as the Eagles. I feel like with a couple breaks we can sneak into the playoffs due to a weak division.

But I'm reading some of these and see Browns going to the Super Bowl and others with crazy win % with teams that likely won't be good this year. How do you not get bored?

It sounds weird but I love losing to the CPU. I'm 3-2 so far with losses to Pittsburgh and Washington.

J. Jones was finally healthy and returned to face the Panthers and Matt Ryan tried to go to him often but was only held to 3 catches for 59 yards. 31 of those yards came on a deep post pattern that went for a touchdown. Cam Newton ran for 40 yards and threw for 353 yards with 3 touchdowns. Matt Ryan didn't throw for as many yards as Cam but had a good game with 252 yards and 3 touchdowns. Panthers Artis-Payne had a good game as well rushing for 123 yards on 23 carries. Freeman was once again held under 100 yards but did have a touchdown. The Rookie Fullback Matt Jose had a breakout game rushing the ball for 73 yards on only 4 carries along with a touchdown. Final score of the Falcons vs Panthers game was 35-26 bringing the Falcons to 8-5 and dropping the Panthers to 9-4.

Atlanta still has a chance to win the division and so does the Saints who also sit at 8-5. The Falcons will have to have the Panthers lose two of the last three games of the season in order to take over the top spot. They are also holding onto one of the wildcard spots along with New Orleans.

Lol. Sounds EXACTLY like the NFC south! always close whether the div stinks or whether it's a good year. Always seems close. My first season, everyone in NFC south was 10-6. I lost in the div round of playoffs. My 2nd season, I started 1-5, but ended up 9-7 I think and actually made another wildcard appearance, but lost that game. So, in the offseason, I looked at all of the draft stories, and found out a LOLB won the heisman!!!! My biggest issue with Falcons is still their d, so I wanted that guy! I traded fairly with a team to get the #3 overall pick in the draft. Can't remember exactly what I traded, but I'm thinking I traded my #1, #2, and Paul worrilow (lol, I needed to clear some cap space AND get rid of worrilow, so I threw him in the deal). I had 2 2nd round picks, so I still had a 2nd rounder. That came in handy to draft a CB who also had a draft story. He supposedly showed up overweight for the combine! Lol, but he was a top 3 speed CB based on the 40 yard dash. He had 80s cov ability, so I took him. 6'3" and 210+, but he has 92 speed, so I think he'll be ok. Turns out the heisman LB is a superstar (which, I figured he'd be) and the 'fat' CB is slow. So, I think that's what the overweight talk was about, slow dev trait. Either way, he's my starting cb2 alongside Trufant. The LB is starting as well and has decent cover skills so he'll also be in nickel packages. Picked a power back in the 3rd round who has 92 speed and high 80s truck and stiff arm. He'll complement Freeman. And, based on Adam Schefter (Scheffer? Can't remember his name now, but the ESPN guy) analysis during the draft, 'many teams are going to be upset not drafting him sooner', so he was a sort of gem pick, I'd say. I picked up a mostly blocking TE in the 7th round. In my first season game vs the saints, these guys ALL SHOWED UP!!! Saints have a rookie QB who is solid, but this was his first game. One of the first plays (might've been the first play, lol), my heisman LB blitzes and rocks his world!! The ball physics were solid as it came out going backwards, bounced off a saints player and landed in hageman's hands. I let the rookie power back rock some short yardage and goaline. He scored his first career TD with a 1 yard score that quickly ended with a precision truck that floored the saints lb. lol. It just looked sweet. The TE is getting some time in my 2 TE packages due to an injury, and I happen to throw a drag his way. He caught it, ran up field, broke 2 tackles, kept on running, and had a tackle battle at the pylon that he lost, but he still got the TD. For a blocking TE, his 1st NFL reception was a TD where he ran some fools over. Again, just awesome to see. Lol. The CB had a nice pass breakup. I think this is the year I go to the SB. And, I need to. Just checked Matty ice is 86 throw power, now!! And, it's the last year of his contract. Not sure what'll happen in the offseason. It's now or never for my dirty birds!!

Good stuff man! Who's your TE1, Hooper? No Coleman behind Freeman? New LOLB, so do you have Deion at MLB and Campbell at ROLB? If so how have they progressed in 3 seasons (and Neal?).

Re: How's your CFM going? M17 edition

So in order to try and get some difficulty or challenge from this terrible game I've decided to implement two house rules.
1. No switch on offense or defense (completely takes the fun out of it imo) but with the rac glitch it's necessary.
2. Only pick plays from coach suggestions. May have to switch to game plan if this is still to easy.

I almost want to delete the patch or tuner Bc the game was difficult when I was in preseason

Hooper sux. Lol. He is still #2. Although, he did have like 900 yards in 2nd season. I thought about trading him, actually. I get offers every once in while. I was offered a 2nd and 7th rounder for him. But, overall, because the playbook is a lot of 2 TE sets, he does fine as a #2. I actually had some issues in my 1st season with the new negotiating setup and salary cap (Matt Ryan gets 22 mil in 3rd season!!! That almost killed me), so I lost Tamme. But, I've never loved him, either. So, I drafted a solid #1 TE in first draft. He only has 79 speed, unfortunately. But he has 80s catch attributes. So, he's #1. His name is Max Bain. So, I picture the announcers and fans doing the voice of Bane from The last Batman movie. Lol. I actually have 4 TEs on the roster. I still have Toilolo. And, yeah, he kinda sux, too. But I love the 6'8" frame. So, as a unit, I'd say their solid. And, back to Hooper, I think, even though he's had 2 decent seasons, he regressed from normal to slow dev, I believe. But, again, with the diff TE drag routes, he gets catches and contributes to offense. But, he also drops balls. I still have Coleman and he is still backing up Freeman, actually. And, he returns kicks and punts. I'm not sure if it's my sliders or Coleman, but he's been doing really well specifically with punts more so than kicks. So, he contributes more there. But, I specifically put the rookie in goaline and 'big' formations. So, Coleman still gets carries as the backup, but the rookie will slowly get more time, I think. And, I'm a power back type of guy, too. So, in M16, I actually relegated Freeman to be a mostly receiving back with excellent results. But, I've got a lot of options there, imo. Neal is 85 ovr. I've been auto updating players to sort of make it 'more sim' and I just don't want to spend the time developing ind players, anymore. But, he is solid. Deion jones is another interesting player, actually. He's the best cover LB the Falcons have. So, I used form subs to put him in nickel and dime, and he was solid. But, now, I may have too many good lbs. because, I choose the rookie stud to rock nickel. Jones rocks dime, still. And, I still have and like Devondre Campbell, and he gets NO PLAYING TIME NOW!! Lol. Oh, because (I forgot to mention), in my first draft, I got a solid MLB to replace worrilow. As it turns out, I could've prob developed jones into that roll. But, I prefer hard hitting MLBs to cover speed LBs. So, honestly, the lb corps I have right now is extremely solid and extremely DIVERSE. Which, is cool. Oh, and let's not forget Beasely. Lol. So, I love using the Bease in multiple ways in multiple packages which is how I assume Quinn will use him as well. So, he's starting ROLB. But, on nickel normal, I form subbed him to LE. And, on nickel double a gap, I put him in as LB, but basically ALWAYS blitz out of that formation. So, he sort of 'roams' multiple locations to 'confuse' the D. This may not 'confuse' the CPU AI, but I like it cause, again, I think Quinn will be doing that with him as well. I'm going to try and tweak auto subs so that Campbell will back up Beasely and hope to get a few more plays with him on the field. I also drafted a possible freak in my first draft, as well. Aaron Nugent. Dude is a LOLB at 6'5" and 250. He has like 89 power move, I think. I'm thinking of converting him to strictly DE. Because, with his size and power moves, I have seen him get pressure. But, he doesn't see much playing time. So, I've done a LOT OF WORK to the Falcons D!!! Hopefully, we don't need that much work in real life, but after that first loss to TB, our d is still looking a little suspect. Lol. Go, Birds!!
