This is an area that always concerns me. I feel they try to appeal to the lowest common denominator here.

Whatever random rating generator formula they have is on "rookie". Maybe bump it up to all pro.

In M16 I was disappointed with the over abundance of franchise QB's that came out of the draft

How did you compare 2016 rookies vs year 2 draft class rookie? were they all in CFM?

trying not to pick holes, but the OVR is scheme dependant, and the OVR of the 2016 rookies changes from the "play now" roster to the CFM roster.

Fair question, I haven't analyzed rookie by rookie.
But that's not the issue, scheme does not change or bump OVRs so much that many rookies from the 2016 class would suddenly go up to 78+ OVR. It simply doesn't.

It would be naive, imo, to say scheme fit is what causing there to be so many 78+ OVR rookies in generated classes. Besides, are we sure "true talent" ranking for drafted rookies (in the player card once you draft them) takes into account scheme?

The thing that allows the dev team to rate 2016 class rookies "so low" is that they know the rating can be adjusted via update or in M18; whereas for the generated rookies they need to create a system where rookies from 2nd round and lower, are not so far away from being viable starters that it becomes impossible to start them until year 3 or 4, thus generated rookies have higher "ratings floor" than 2016 rookies.

But there is still too many imo, having 30+ incoming rookies every year with a rating over 78+ is simply not on par with this year's class. And that's what they said "generated classes are tuned to match 2016 class"

Re: Every team gets 2-3 first round picks each draft.

I really trusted them to get it right this year with all the talk of trying to mirror this year's draft. But it's no where close to where it should be. Really wish we had a draft class slider like NBA 2K. Last year they patched xp sliders so maybe there is hope.

Yes, but typically OVRs are reduced for rookies entering a CFM because their production rating starts a zero - at least this was the case last year. If that remains the same, then the disparity is even steeper in CFM mode.

Re: Every team gets 2-3 first round picks each draft.

Of all the things I'd like Madden to fix, tweak, etc, draft classes are pretty low on the pecking order for me and I only play CFM.

They have made gigantic strides in recent years with all the custom drafts, and having played multiple CFM's, and gone 10 plus years in a bunch of them, this has just never been an issue for me. I'd rather it stay as it is then risk EA nerfing something that doesn't need nerfed.

The ONLY position I would agree it's too easy getting a franchise player in is QB, just based on past years. Could be different this time around, but I was able to find some awesome QB's in later rounds and I would always have a tough time choosing which QB I had drafted to play, since I had at least two guys who could be studs.
