How long do you wait to deliver the ball?
I try to throw it as the RB begins his route.

That is way too early. Also, watch the point where the defenders and o line get off their blocks. If the defensive line hesitates to rush, he's going to cover the RB.

That is generally the last second you can throw before the defense gets to your QB. If anything I'd have to be throwing late

Do you keep backing up away from the rush as the play develops?

Throwing a bit too early IMO. If there's a LB in man coverage on your RB, you need to at least take the time to recognize that. I typically wait until the RB has got outside the tackle box and is getting nearer to the convoy of blockers formed ahead of him, you should be able to catch the pass and turn upfield behind your blockers. It does sometimes require you to probably drop back a touch more with your QB to buy more time depending on the speed of the rush.

Also, if you're facing LB's or CB's with high awareness ratings, and high play recognition ratings, you've probably also got a better chance of your screen getting blown up.

IRL, a pick off a RB screen is EXTREMELY rare

That's true, but it's also because the QB throws it away if there's a high chance of the screen being blown up or a defender reads it well in real life.

Also, in the real NFL, screens are rarely effective and is basically a safe give up play. I'd love to see the percentage of screens on 3rd down that actually convert.

Re: RB Screens always picked

You have to read the D linemen. If even one covers the RB then just throw the ball away. Best case scenario there is a tackle for loss. WR screens are a bit easier to read. If the CPU lines up in press man, then audible out. That play is doomed from the start.
