Not sure if there is verification of this somewhere, but from what I understand (through browsing lots of threads) is that using Turbo also tells your OL they should be getting off their block and moving up-field to find a new person to block. Obviously doing this when you just get the ball would cause problems.
How much of that is truth I'm not sure, but I will definitely say that learning not to hit Turbo until you are in the hole you want really does help your run game.

This is a fact. Pretend you are Leveon Bell. Don't go full speed until you find the hole and get past the line.
