House Rules for Progression?

I haven't played this series since M15 because I never really got into the whole XP thing. I usually just let the CPU progress my players for me. However, this year I want to start getting into investing in my players. However, I would like to do that realistically.

I was wondering if anyone had come up with any house rules for XP that I could use as a model to progress my players?

I only have one rule -- I don't mine for xp. I don't stat pad to get more xp.

Other than that I feel like things like the price of physical attributes are high enough where the game does a good enough job on its own in regulating how I spend the xp.

Re: House Rules for Progression?

I usually use XP to improve awareness, occasionally for defenders improving zone or man abilities or WR/TE/RB route running (i.e, teachable attributes) but usually only after I spend several points on awareness during a 'spend' week (I go once every 4 weeks). I think Tdawg has a nice summary on XP that you may find in the slider thread threads. As above I generally don't do anything on most physical attributes. And my own quirk is that if a player regresses, he has to spend his XP recovering that regression before improving elsewhere. So in theory if he is a fumbler, he blows his XP on carrying and doesn't improve otherwise (punishment for the regression).

Re: House Rules for Progression?

i attempt to progress any player with over 1000xp weekly. i have a spread sheet and each position group has a practice skill for each week of the preseason, regular season and playoffs. If they have enough xp that week to progress that skill they progress. For example if olb's are doing zone coverage in week 13 then each olb that has enough points increases zone does so. If not the xp carries over to try to be applied to what they are practicing the next week.

this keeps exactly what people get better at out of my hands though i do control how much they practice a skill. Awareness and play recognition are primarily done during the pre and post season if my team is alive. There is a benefit in the nfl for being a smart player and not every player becomes smart. i have a diversity in skill in position groups and i avoid my natural inclination to make all players the same.

Read TDawgs XP slider thread and his house rules.

I follow those to a tee.

I second this. His XP sliders have made a world of difference in both my offline CFM and in our league.
