"On the subject of defense, Oldenburg says that zone coverage is getting a boost while man coverage will likely be nerfed...."

This info along with the info that, "defensive line mechanics may not be able to match the new running backs," concerns me at this point..

I feel DTs are already afterthoughts when building a team. A DT, especially the NT position, is a key position in the 3-4 itself. I fear M19 will again allow the use of any DT to basically handle the NT position. Hoping that size will make some difference for the position.

In theory the new momentum aspect of a bigger NT should have an impact in the collision with the lineman. To what extent this impacts play is yet to be seen.

On the subject of defense, Oldenburg says that zone coverage is getting a boost while man coverage will likely be nerfed, at least in the short term. In particular, he points to Cover 4, deep safety, and curl flat as points of interest. Of course, Madden is always in motion, so this will likely last until the first patch hits.

LMAO! Man defense and man coverage is the 1 thing they have missed on every year. SMH! Looks like another year of major slider changes or all zones being called. This is disappointing!

I wish they got RPO in the game too as a Seahawks fan but oh well. A few things that worry me though and has always been a problem with EA is putting things in the game that don't have a counter to it. For example they put in push the pile which is great offensively in short yardage or goal line situations. I love the sounds of other additions and the all 22 man true step control, BUT what about the same thing being applied to LB's to come in and do the same thing as the RB's in pushing the pile? I want the game to be a game of inches at times when it should be... Do I have to rely on the dice roll if my DT makes the tackle? Is it a year where all 3rd & 1's will be completed, 4th & inches? They did add a counter for the one cut and said they improved the accuracy with the strafe which is good balance and counter. Anyways, all speculation and we will see what changes in next few months. Hopefully enough people complain about the man defense being nerfed like it needed to be. I thought it was nerfed as low as it could possibly be nerfed!

Edit: just saw others mention this as well after I posted...

Will have to see some gameplay to see its impact.
I hope you are right. But going off of every madden game ever made (maybe slight slight exaggeration) and I have played every 1 of them, their past history says otherwise & this is not the case. We'll see...

Man to Man didn't make it in for the street date, but appears to be left open by using "short term" and likely last until the first patch hits.

Is it possible it's still being worked on and put into a future title update or future title?

Time will tell, but at least, there is the transparency they have been bringing up.

IMO, it's hard to make a judgement on any of the aspects of gameplay until we see how RPM affects every player. Having 3 separate route running ratings for receivers should also alter how man and zones play as well.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

And there is this too:

Quarters and Palms are commonly referred to as “Man Match” defenses, which simply means the defenders in coverage can match up and play man-to-man.."

And Simftballcritic chiming in:

Wait until you see how they play out in game.

I'm hoping that RPM tightens up man coverage as is the reason it might need to be nerfed because it's been pretty awful for the last several years and one of the main reasons has been player movement. Stuff like this:

and then other things like that speed burst receivers will get while cutting that creates tons of separation. Man coverage is one of those things that needs to be tight because it allows more of those WR/DB interactions and in a lot of cases even the worst corners aren't consistently getting beat by 5+ yards let alone the good ones.
