The cap does not increase much year to year - maybe a couple million. But the salaries (to sign) also do not increase that much over the course of several seasons.

The $20m cap on annual salary preventing you from resigning a player is a bug or glitch. I would post in the bug and glitch thread - I’m told the developers read that thread.

THe 20 mil max offer cap isn't a glitch. the cap has been 20 million for a long time. This just seems to be the first time we are running into salary expectations in the game that go over that cap.

It does need to be shared though. This is something im sure they could change pretty quickly once they realize it's an issue.

Wait, then how is Stafford's contract handled in game? He makes 27 million per year

Edit: in my franchise Rodgers is currently making 37.2m in the final year of his contract. How did this happen if the cap is 20m?

2 possibilities.

1. The 20 mil cap is strictly on the offer screen. It's not a universal limit in the game. If a player has a contract higher than that in real life, they will have that contract by default.

2. The player was signed within the cap limit, but because all madden contracts are back loaded, the salary eventually rose to above the limit.

That's odd, you can edit the contracts above the limit, correct?

The 20m limit is only on new offers. For guys making more than that already, their contract is in the game. People are having issues though trying to re-sign such players, as they ask for more than you can provide in the offer screen. For example, Aaron Rodgers. He wants over that 20m, and people can't sign him.

Yes, you can edit contracts. Not sure if you can edit them above the limit or not, but you can edit them. Some are using this to fix the Rodgers issue. They are just going in and editing his existing contract. The other option is to let them hit free agency and actually sign them for less. Some have said that once they hit FA, no other team can afford them anyway and they'll take your offer.

Hm, it's probably better to edit the contract. If it's a 90+ ovr player you have to make him the highest paid player at his position to resign him. Mid to high 80s paid top 1/3 money. High 70s with potential and low 80s top 1/2 money, and anything below, in the bottom half, depending on ovr. Maybe we should make a thread about this? Make it a common house rule like not fleecing the CPU

not every 90+ player is the best in their position though, so that's definitely a house rule.

The salary cap stops increasing after 2026. It also does not increase as much in game as in real life. The only reason that sustainable is because contracts in the game do not behave like real life. Antonio Brown does not demand $100m because OBJ got $95m for example. There is also no inflation.

I re-signed Ezekiel Elliott for 5 years 59m, which was higher than the "fair" offer. That's only about 11.8m a year, which is less than Bell's franchise tag. In real life, you're right, it would be a war for highest paid. In the madden world, however, they stick to semi-realistic parameters based on ratings.
