LOL if it's what you want just do it. There's no need to concoct a rationalization for the move; it's your game. Considering that ATL just resigned Ryan to a huge extension there probably does not exist any real life pretense under which they'd trade him.

Re: "Realistic" way to trade for Lamar Jackson (to ATL)

I understand where you are coming from and I'm the same way. With that said I think there's no way Jackson would start for any franchise in his rookie season for that matter.

So, I tried to come up with a scenario that I think would make the most sense for both the Falcons and the Ravens in this universe.

Jackson struggles mightly in the preseason, falling behing not just RGIII but also undrafted quarterback Josh Woodrum and the Ravens quickly realize they made a mistake selecting the former Louisville star at 32. So, as this is Ozzie Newsome's last year, they try to cut their losses and move on before it's too late.

So, as the Ravens kept only two quarterbacks on the 53 man roster for the past 9 seasons or so, they try to trade Jackson before the final cuts arrive. So you would trade for him after playing the 4th preseason game but before getting into Week 1 of the regular season.

In terms of compensation, the Ravens gave up 3 picks to get Jackson.
2018 and 2019 2nd round picks and a 2018 4th round pick and in return they got the last pick of the 1st round of 2018 (that they selected Jackson with) and also a 5th round pick in 2018. So, if they decided to move on from Jackson after only 4 preseason games, they would have to be very frustrated with his play but also they would have to fall in love with what they would get in return because they are short of a 2nd round pick in 2019 because of that trade.

So, I think picks are a more realistic way of doing this. Out of the gate, they would have to get that 2nd round pick of 2019 back, but also they would have to have a plan to get Joe Flacco's replacement in the next draft, as they decided Jackson wasn't it, so I would put next year's 1st rounder in the basket too.

Too get this done in game maybe you will have to swap late round picks too, so maybe the trade would look like this:

Falcons offer:
1st round pick 2019
2nd round pick 2019
5th round pick 2019 or 2020

Ravens offer:
QB Lamar Jackson
6th or 7th round pick 2019

I think this would make the most sense out of this situation.

Once the trade is done, Atlanta gets hyped because they just got what could be Vick 2.0 in the long run, but they also remember that their squad is ready to win now, with a QB that was the MVP of the league a couple of seasons ago. So they decide to let he have one last shot to have it all and let Jackson learn behind their pro-bowler QB for this season.

After the first season is done, depending on where you stand, superbowl, playoffs that kind of thing... you kinda go where it takes you... maybe they go 5-11 and miss the playoffs and they decide to bet it all on the youngster on his sophomore year, or maybe they win the Superbowl but Ryan's agent calls for another millionaire extension so they decide to move away from him Gruden-Mack style...

I think you get the point, let us know how that goes once you decide what to do.

Hope I could help in some way!

Re: "Realistic" way to trade for Lamar Jackson (to ATL)

To be as realistic as possible, in my opinion:

-Do NOT do the trade before your franchise to avoid cap penalties. That alone ruins ANY hint of a realistic trade.

-Play out a year, maybe even two with Ryan. He just signed a huge contract, they wouldn't be willing to take the cap hit. After that, he will be 34-35. Aging star, how much left in the tank...Falcons would possibly be looking to change direction, especially if they were rough years for Ryan.

-In year 1-2, trade for Lamar. Groom him behind Ryan. By this I mean give him the focus training every week in game prep, bring him in if you're up big, and even give him a formation or two to get a few reps every game.

-To get Lamar, it's at least a 1st round pick, and probably something more. The Ravens moved up for him, and see him as the future, so they'll want a King's ransom. Given that he is still raw, I'd say MAYBE a 1st and a 3rd might get it done, but probably a 1 and 2. You'll find a ton of different opinions on what picks he is worth, obviously. 1st and 3rd gives the Ravens a chance to draft their next QB (auto draft classes usually have quite a few), and then fill another hole. That's just me, I think people have had a much tougher time getting him though when trying to trade.

I actually agree with this idea. You give Atlanta their Vick 2.0 and replacement for Ryan. And the ravens will have brought in two guys to give Flacco some new weapons.

Re: "Realistic" way to trade for Lamar Jackson (to ATL)

If you're fine with Matt Ryan not existing at all in your CFM, why not say he sustained a hugely devastating career-ending injuring on his last pass attempt against the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Divisional Playoff game last year?

So going into the Offseason the Falcons are a still stocked with talent but are suddenly lacking the most important position on the team: a Franchise QB. They try trading up in the NFL Draft but it's simply too much to move up for the highly ranked rookie QBs from their mid-20's position in the Draft. Lady luck is on their side, however, as Lamar Jackson slides right in their lap.

You could edit Ryan's ratings to 0 before Franchise, swap Jackson to the Falcons as well as Calvin Ridley to the Ravens (feasible draft pick for them, IMO). If you want to start Jackson as a rookie right away you can just roll with that or you could also swap a veteran QB onto the Falcons as well if you want that veteran-rookie set up and don't want to start Jackson right away (Case Keenum, Teddy Bridgewater, RGIII, Josh McCown, Mike Glennon, etc.)

You could also say the Falcons did draft up for him and had to give up a future first or first and second if you want to give yourself a little handicap.

Like someone said it's all up to you, just do what makes you happy in your franchise!

Honestly, I've always done a mini redraft. For example, you can draft Lamar Jackson and have the Ravens pick Ridley. I always make sure it's fair and the other team is fulfilling a need.

If you think about it....that really is the way to go. The Falcons drafted Lamar Jackson and he dazzled the coaches in training camp and pre-season. You have Matt Ryan as a veteran back up now.
