I have better luck with deep double routes, for sure. Straight fly’s are tougher this year, imo.

But, the best luck I have involves a few different techniques.

1. Wait till the wr just passes the cb or is even with cb to throw it.

2. Just tap the throw button for a lob or slightly hold it for a touch. Absolutely do not throw a bullet. Those tend to get picked.

3. U say u lead the wr which is good, but to make it even better, if u can step up in the pocket, I really think that helps. So, right before u throw, set yourself up to be able to step up in the pocket. Press up to step up and throw the ball and continue to hold up to lead the wr. I’ve found this really makes the ball fly better and I seem to connect with the wr more often.

4. Time your agrressive catch or use RAC if u can. If your wr has separation and is over the top of the cb, u should def use RAC catch. Your wr will sort of wall off the defender and catch and keep going.

5. If you don’t have separation, use aggressive catch. But, again, there’s definitely a timing to it. I feel like u want to sort of be in position to wall of the wr, again. It’s hard to explain, but I like to press and hold Y when I feel like my wr has the best possible position to maintain his path to the ball. Sometimes, that’s right when u throw it, but normally it’s more about when the ball is coming down. I usually look at the cb more than the ball or wr to know when to time it. This isn’t absolute, of course. I still get Superman ints against me where my wr doesn’t go for it the way I expect. But, it gives u a good chance.

Good tips. When it comes to 4/5, I have a burner with streak specialist and 9 times out of 10, when I RAC with him, he pulls up and does this leaping catch animation with some scissor kick, allowing the DB to make contact and knock the ball out. He has 90+ for all catch ratings. It's maddening as hell.

That’s because Aggressive Catch is weighted as the #1 triggering catch animation no matter Play Style.

This was done on purpose or inadvertently when they were tuning for Comp/MUT play.

Disk w/no patches you will continue to run even with selecting a RAC catch.
- AI WR would do the same thing also

Also, if one played w/out any updates, you would see Throw Styles/arcs/Ball Speed/Wind affects etc... are better represented/animated than now

you have to hold the rac catch button

i've never once had my wr jump for the ball while holding it down.

Does anybody know a work-around to this? I fell victim to this problem with a strong-armed QB I drafted and he does not have the tight spiral trait.

If it is just cosmetic, I can kind of live with it. But the more I read it seems like it affects how easily the WRs can catch the ball.

This is total cheese but I have resorted to signing some scrub QB off of free agency after confirming he has the tight spiral trait and just editing him to match the rookie QB you drafted. It's technically the same guy you drafted with same ratings and development trait but he can throw a tight spiral now. Then edit the poor sap you drafted and discard the now 40-year-old punter with an 11 kicking power and the old-timey one-bar kicker's helmet.

I'm not even sure this is that cheesy. There's zero chance a team fully scouting and spending a high pick on a QB would miss consistently wobbly throws....I'd call it a totally viable workaround.

Maybe restrict yourself from doing it if this is a QB you spent a late-round flyer on (maybe a cutoff at the 4th round?). But even casual people who only pay attention to college tape when mock drafts start coming out would notice a thing like that on a top prospect...there's just no realistic way to roleplay out "well, I guess the scouts just missed this".

A good scouting report like they gave in the PS2 days would be great.

Or, even better, what is mentioned in the "Rebuilding Franchise" thread (Deuce Douglass).
