Weren't swings and flats supposed to be more effective?

Was that a mirage or did I not hear this? I still have backs and receivers hurl themselves out of bounds on most plays to the flat. Did they not advertise this being fixed?

I can't be sure on this but I feel like this was pretty darn good to start the season. I seem to remember thinking the CPU would have run straight out of bounds on swings passes where there was no defender within 10 yards. It was frustrating yet great to give up yards on these types of plays. But more and more recently on third and 8 the CPU passes to a wide open back or TE near the sidelines and the animation carries them out of bounds. It forces them to punt but I don't feel like I earned it. I think it might have gotten messed up in a patch like most everything else does.

Game is still good but it feels less organic than at launch....at least to me. Anyone else?

Also....this happens to me as a user where I see my back come open in the flat and throw it to him while he is 5 yards from sideline and the catch animation takes him out of bounds as well for a 2-3 yard loss. So they don't work that well for users anymore either IMHO.

They are more effective this year against drop zone coverages. It's much easier to turn up field this year than past Madden games.

My brother runs TE flats and RB swings routinely without issue. The slant-flat concept and the RB motion swing are staple plays in his offense.

Personally, I call curl-flat a fair amount against Cover 3 (specifically, I hot route into a solo WR curl and weak RB flat; not the standard 2x2 curl flat), and I can RAC the flat routes just fine if the curl gets taken.

Dude they've advertised this for YEARS and it still isn't working in the game. It's embarrassing. They hardly add anything to the game and even the stuff they claim to add doesn't work.

Definitely. When I see drop zone I get it out quickly to my guy in the flat and usually get 7-10 yards.

This may be true "if" you get it out in a hurry. But the AI receiver/back shouldn't catch a pass 5 yards from the sideline and accidentally run out of bounds 90% of the time. So the issue still exists to some degree....and for sure the CPU QB tends to throw to these guys way out towards the sidelines as a check down and they just run out of bounds.

The biggest problem as I see it is that offensive players never backpedal. If you look at how guys run those flat routes in the NFL, they will turn around towards the QB and backpedal, so the catch and turn is easy. In Madden, they have their back to the QB, so they have to do the slow over the shoulder catch animation before they can gain control.
