Well I am still hoping that these exclusive deals won't end up being profitable, and they'll go away. But that is probably just wishful thinking.

EA doesn't have to pay the license fee all in one year. It's a five year deal. And Madden isn't expected to pay for the whole thing anyway. Don't forget, in November Madden 06 360 comes out, and that's at least another 500,000 units.

That 500,000 units will not make a dent in this NFL deal. They owe the nfl at least 50 mil this year. The numbers I have that madden sold 2.2 million in the monthy of august and guess we will have to wait until the NPD numbers.

Madden is the cash cow for ea. Its like having a money tree but this nfl deal will negate any profits for the Madden series.

Thats what I should have added to my comment If u only sell 400,000 more then the same time last year plus the extra money for exclusivity it doest add up

And this is the key here. The number of sales for ESPN 2k5 does not matter. EA/Madden is competing with it self. And from this report Madden 2006 is not out selling Madden 2005 by much.

True. Why did EA think that over paying for the NFL license would expand their market. It seem like the 2k guys either picked up both last year or decided to stay home this year. This is bad news for EA.

Say Madden make $10 profit on each game ( which I doubt) how many game additional games will they have to sell to cover thei year 50 million dollar deal with the nfl. Madden need to sell additional 5 million more units just to break even.

I also notice for the first time the big box retailers having sales on Madden at 39.99 in less than a month of Madden release. Can we expect to see Madden on sale for 29.99 during the holiday seasons and EA giving rebates to move their cash cow. EA white shirts over played thier hand on this one.

Some of you guys are unbelievable. EA sets a release month sales record, and yet somehow this is a failure?
