I suppose that lack of competition can always be debated as the cause of lack of innovation, new features, etc.

IMHO, however, I believe the biggest impact of lack of competition is the lack of adequate testing and quality control. I'm hoping this will improve. Time will tell.

Madden will sell no matter what. Name recognition goes an awful long way, it always has for Madden. Factor it's the only game in town, and gamers like we have here are the minority not the majority, not even close. Hardcore gamers, make up a very slim, slim piece of the Madden game buying public.

If you think Madden sales are somehow going to suddenly drop, you're delusional. EA didn't get to be where they are with this franchise by being stupid.

It's sad, but it's the way it is.
lol - I make commentary on the quality of the game and you steer it right into an argument about sales. I was speaking for MYSELF - and was saying I'm sure there are others that feel similiarly. Will that affect EA's bottom line? Of course not. After seeing what EA was able to get away with in NBA Live, I understand the sales picture is likely not going to change. Given the fact that people will rush to purchase the product despite being treated [the way the community is treated], we deserve to have no choice but this mediocre game as an option.

It's only "smart" because the alternative, not buying out the NFL exclusive license, probably would've ended EA's decade long stranglehold on the football game market.

Assuming EA loses money on the deal, it still is better than losing the top spot from EA's (rather desperate at the time) perspective.

Wow, FIFA 07 sounds hot. I would think about trading in FIFA WC for it but I swore off EA games after Madden 07.
