It's like, people feel extra macho when they say that they haven't bought Madden in X amount of years or that they rent it first 100% of the time. Saying that you haven't purchased Madden in a few years are like bragging rights nowadays. All this contemplating and decision making for $60 bucks.

Yeah I know, the economy is horrible and you have to frugal with your money. I get all that, and I'm no cash-cow myself. I just don't see why so much emphasis is put on buying/not buying Madden.
$60 per person really isn't a lot on its own, but it can have a collective impact. Say 10,000 people who bought '09 decide not to purchase 2010. That's $600,000 in lost revenue for EA right there. You know a lot of those people will tell their friends how bad the game is; as a result, two or three more people might not buy it because of the original consumer's disappointment. Before you know it, you could be talking about hundreds of thousands of people. If the game disappoints again and enough people say "I've had it", there will be an effect on EA's earnings. Don't forget; they're a public company and they have shareholders to answer to. Madden is EA's cash cow and accounts for a good portion of their annual revenue.

It isn't so much about the AMOUNT, as what we GET for the amount. Last few years, I would have been as well served to put that $60.00 in a pile and burn it....neither option makes me feel good.

And renting is not alot of work....same as test driving a car....at least I get to feel whether it's worth the money to purchase later, and know I wasn't foolish enough to buy garbage simply on the Madden name alone.

Right. I undoubtely agree with you but you're looking at it through a business sense. I'm simply referring to the users across different forums who feel they have "put their foot down" by not purchasing Madden. I'm fully aware of the impact a several hundred thousand can have.

Gotcha. But I can see it from their perspective also. It's not a good feeling to know that you wasted your money (however much or however little) on a crappy product.

I guess its how you value your time. renting, borrowing, playing the demo over and over.

I would pay 60$ to not have to do that without the game.

I just want the game when its released and will gladly pay my 60$ like a good sheep.

Worst case I play the game 2-4 weeks roughly 40 to 60 hours. That's a $1.00 -$1.50 an hour for entertainment.

Better than anything else i can think of..cheaper too.

Church! (In other words, I agree)

Or, you trade it back in at Gamestop (that's what they're there for after all), and cut your losses on 30 bucks.

Re: How will you approach Madden this year?

I bought every Madden since the Genesis except for Madden 06, 07, and 08 on next gen. I would just buy them out of habit, but I played 06 on the 360 and that really turned me off to blind buying, I was glad I didn't buy it and remained VERY skeptical and leery after that fiasco.

I didn't buy 07, and 08 and played them and didn't like them at all, I wound up buying these all used on last gen systems to not contribute to EA's sales figures as punishment for the poor efforts on the new systems.

I bought 09 new because my girlfriend's son loves Madden (teenager, graphics whore, he's the target market not me, him and his buddies think it's great...). Madden 09 is a poor game from a sim perspective, all of you guys who think it's "good", "fun", "better", "step in the right direction", "best this gen", etc. Good for you, I'm glad someone can milk some enjoyment out of it, I can't stand it, it's not an NFL game, it's an arcade game.

I will cross my fingers for '10, but won't buy it new, even if everyone across America rates it a "10" I will buy it used, I suggest you do the same.

Re: How will you approach Madden this year?

Pretty much how I'd approach Madden at any time.....

...... by extending him a cheeseburger.

Seriously, though, I echo Jet's words, except I didn't extend any money to EA even on the last gen front, save for this year. I know the last gen 09 guys applaud this effort over the 360/PS3 model, but I just don't see it.
