PS3 Price Cut in August Timed with Madden Launch?

That's what I thought as well when I bought my PS3 at launch. However, it's only been a Blu-Ray player for me. I've only purchased one game for the PS3, MGS4, which was outstanding, and have rented a handful. But I always go back to my 360. I just like it more for playing games. I like the controller better, I like Xbox Live better, I like the dashboard better, and some other things.

Do I think the 360 is a more powerful system? No I don't, I also think it lost out when it did not include Blu-Ray or HDDVD. And I don't mean it from a movie viewing perspective (I could care less really, though honestly if it did come with a Blu-Ray drive, I would likely have NOT bothered purchasing the PS3 at all), I'm coming from a media storage angle.

Any way, I'm not some hardcore fanboy of any system. I just play where my experience is better. Last generation, it was PS2, this time around it's the 360. Hell I used to flip-flop between Sega and Nintendo for years.

PS3 is awesome. Glad to see it's cheaper. Not as awesome as some people would lead you to believe, but definitely worth it.

Great exclusives that can ONLY be found on the PS3....(like MLB The Show, GOW3, MGS4,etc)
Free Online....(with dedicated servers for most 1st party games = NO LAG)
built in Wifi...
built in large hard drive....(that you can add a larger hard drive on your own)
and has a BluRay player....

$399 is a very good price....and if it drops to $299, well damn.

So if your a developer and you can make more money if your game is on the 360 why would you put so much time in getting a great PS3 game which will cause more to produce for less profit. Like some have said. This price cut comes to late. Didn't Microsoft do the same thing before Madden hit last year. What happened to the originality Sony. When did they ever expect to hit the sweet spot for selling systems 199. Sony killed itself. But I would purchase that great Blu Ray machine for 299.

the 360 is more like a 1500 dollar system instead of a 300 dollar system. no built-in wireless. seriously? not to mention the console itself is basically an annual throwaway piece of garbage. but hey, if you like supporting companies that produce horridly unreliable hardware, then more power to you. personally, i always go for quality over what's cheap. because in the end, that is usually the cheapest route anyway. and the "who has the games argument" is now laughably in favor of sony's machine.

PS3 is definitely reliable from what's been said. Doesn't mean they never break but not at the rate the 360s do. "Great" exclusives? MLB 09 and ... well that's about it. MLB 09 is only great because 2K has been dropping the ball big time. GOW3 I haven't played yet so it's hard to call it great when the only place it's being played is on somebody's dev box. MGS4 was not great in my opinion. It was off the hook and alot of fun but "great" I don't think so.

Free online, yep as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. PSN is nowhere close to the 360 experience online. I have NO problem plunking down the 50 bones a year for the solid experience of the 360.

PS3 dedicated servers is a huge plus. Great stuff there but the 360 allows any company to have their own servers to compliment the online experience. I know on the 360 if a companies server goes down there is still a basic mode where you can play a friend or random online through Live services. With Sony if those servers are dead then it's ALL DEAD from my experience.

Built in WiFi. I'm sorry but the PS3's built in WiFi sucks badly and this isn't a "hidden secret". Everyone knows it's good for some things but when you really want to get to your gaming it's not quite ready for prime time. It's the very reason I now have to bust my knuckles and hardwire it after I went through all the trouble of setting up my entertainment center and running wires to be hidden while depending on the PS3 to provide the same wireless as the 360. Had I known the PS3's built in wireless was going to be so bad I would have ran some cat5 in anticipation when I was getting it all set up.

The removable harddrive is great. I love that feature and hate that Microsoft went this hard ball way with their drives. They need to send an update to kill that. Totally unnecessary. Just trying to gouge is all their doing.

Bluray Player is the sole reason I purchased the PS3 in the first place so all it's other shortcomings don't bother me as much as it was never intended to be a major gaming station for me anyway. In my eyes it was a bluray player that happens to play some really cool games and as long as I look at it like that then I'm cool. But if I try to look at it like anything else then I'd feel like a fool for buying it. The 360 is my gaming machine that happens to play some HD-DVDs (that are now DIRT CHEAP and the same HD quality as Bluray) movies I like and the PS3 is my Bluray player (limited to SELECT current release movies that will not come out on HD-DVD since it's dead) that happens to play games I like.

So there it is. I'm the biggest fanboy there is. I'm a fanboy of "total's happiness". Whatever makes me happy I'm a fanboy of. Whatever saves me $$$ in the process I'm a HUGE fanboy of.

Wifi has been fine for me.

I don't know if you had a PS2 last gen....but I feel if you love those types of games from the PS1/PS2 days...you'll love the ones that will be released for the PS3.....IMO Sony has some of the Best 1st party studios out there....Sony pays alot of money to keep these studios running and that is a benefit for us who purchise hardware made by Sony (PS3/PSP). I just think some forget that sometimes when they buy the system at a high price.

The online is fine for me....I don't have too much complaints.....

but besides those two things and your avatar, I agree with most of what you wrote.... I'm a BIG fan of happiness as well.

Not to start a "flame war" but Sony doesn't need props for releasing a system that is actually stable Microsoft needs to be condemned for releasing an inferior(lifespan) console. just like they did for Windows Vista...
