IMO it's basically an insurance policy. When/if 2k comes back, they can't use the ESPN brand.

You think there's outrage now over Madden "killing" 2k... imagine if Madden then went and used an ESPN broadcast presentation.

It's nothing legal that is the problem, but IF EA went ahead and used ESPN, who knows if the NFL would get upset? They MAY just decide that a purely NFL game from someone else might better advertise their brand, and*poof* say goodbye to exclusive license.

As far as ESPN, they may not have their brand being marketed, but they DO have a buttload of cash that they wouldn't have otherwise. Its not like ESPN can make another 2k game.

HAHA I agree with that and IMO the purchasing of the ESPN Liscence was just a step along the way to close out 2k games. So what seems like a waste of money in purchasing a liscense you (EA) dont use doesn't look like such a waste of money if it helps you eliminate your only competitor.
