In 100% agreement. So long as the ratings don't dictate what happens on the field, it doesn't matter what you do with them.

I think for the draft they need to have scouting tape. Like a highlight reel of the player from college. Is this too much to ask for from a 4 billion dollar company?

Re: Hide Ratings and Potential in Franchise Mode

It all honesty if you want realism this is the only way to do it. Obviously they'll still have stats just hidden - everyone has different speed but they're not all lined up in terms of 4o-time let alone ratings. In the NFL the only way you get credit is by how you perform - Matt Cassell was a nobody until he had one good season, now hes a Franchise QB because of one good season - he could turn out to be a bust.. In Madden you'd know from the start pretty much and its not realistic.

And yes it may make picking you team harder but knowledge of your team and an accurate depth chart on EAs part would help.

I would also like to see a team chemistry stat, or something similar. If a team changed its starting 11 every game they wouldn't do much, so consistency should be encouraged and rookies and newly promoted first-teamers should have a break-in period ranging from say 2-10 games - not that they'll perform badly they justwon't play to the max until they've got a few games under the belt. Practice squads and training camps would also become pretty important (need some kind of coaching feedback).

It'll never happen because people get attached to the ratings (and disputing them) and there are a lot of lazy gamers out there who don't want to think about what they're doing - let alone go 2 or 3 pages deep - but just an option to have it would be nice. But having not even implemented long snappers I don't expect any more realism.

Re: Hide Ratings and Potential in Franchise Mode

Making a system like this would cause their sales to tank faster then the Titanic. It will go against about 90% of their costumer base want from franchise mode. The causal gamer not only wants but needs to have the overall rating. Even some of the serious guys dont look at the individual ratings. Let alone try and pick out who has skill based on combine numbers and performance.

Realistically, most coaches know that each player is good at the time they are good. They know that Freeney is an amazing pass rusher and Williams is talented at doing both. They have a general idea of potential because players IRL don't play to a set rating. They "flash" talent. How often they are consistent turns them from a decent player with some upside to a great player with good skills.

They should implement a Head Coach 09 system based overall. For those who have no clue what I am talking about, you chose what type of system player you want at each position and the overall rating changes based on what ratings would be good for that system. If I wanted a strong arm/tools QB then Russel would be 80+ but if I wanted a field general QB Russel would be a 60-70ish. If I set my WR to speed then Hey-Wardbay(sp) would be a 80-90+ but if I set them to red zone threat(big tall catching) he would be a 60.

Lastly, they should leave an option for people to remove potential from their sight. They also need to stop making potential a general system. They need to give each player individual potential at each skill(Example would be A QB awareness could grow to a 99 but his throw accuracies would only grow into the mid 70s-mid 80s.(another HC system idea) Some people want it. Some people dont want it. Others dont even care. Just give us the option.

Re: Hide Ratings and Potential in Franchise Mode

I love the grades idea and the head coach idea for what type of player you want is genius. That way in the 3-4 Dwight Freeney wouldn't be a 93. As long as madden improves franchise so I can't just rebuild a team in 2 seasons with ease. I don't want someone telling me Asomugha is the best corner. I should make that decision myself.
