Re: Madden NFL 10 Blog: 2nd Title Update Preliminary Details

C'mon now, there's no comparison to the types of fixes Infinity Ward has put out for MW2 and what we are expecting for Madden. The MW2 patches have been small, quick fixes for online connectivity, not completely revamping gameplay like the Madden patch will.

Still, this Madden patch is LONG overdue.

There are anti-trust laws from monopolies forming in the US. How is this not one here? They have a monopoly on NFL games.

I don't think you can monopolize a genre. I think they could monopolize video games by buying up a ton of companies, but I don't think you can monopolize a genre.

Also, the NFL has the right to use it's license however they please. There's nothing illegal about selling the rights to one company over the other.

None of that is to say I wouldn't love a new 2k game, I would. I just don't buy the "it's a monopoly" argument.

This covers a lot of the monopoly discussion.

Week 10 in the NFL and still no 2nd patch......I really don't think this has anything to do with Sony/MS @ this point.....smh......EA......release the title update already or let 2K back in the game so that we may experience the GREAT gridiron once again.

Re: Madden NFL 10 Blog: 2nd Title Update Preliminary Details

my point wasn't about the size of the patch it was about them actually being released. From what i know the MW2 patches mainly fixing some online stuff. But the main point i was making is that they have released 3 patches. That means they exceeded the free 2 patch limit. Plus they got released practically straight away how does that work?

Maybe it has something to do with it being for online stuff so it doesn't count but i doubt it

I wouldn't be surprised if other game developers have been working on something the last few years and as soon as EA loses their rights, some other company releases a game that blows EA out of the water.
Originally, EA Sports and the NFL united for a, I believe, 4-year deal starting in 2005 and ending in 2009. However, in 2008, they agreed on an extention to keep the NFL's likeness in EA's hands until at least Superbowl XLVII (2013).

So those "other game developers" are going to be holding onto their game for the next 4 years and pray that in 2012, EA and NFL don't extend their contract together again 'til say at least 2018 lol.

Again, this isn't stopping any company from developing a FOOTBALL game. Hell, if some football video game developer really cared to make a buck over EA Sports, they could always release the "ultimate football video game" complete with the works and just make up an entire league, players, as well as a backstory for the league. It's almost an easy way out to use the NFL in a football game. The teams and players are already there. The structure is there. No need to be creative. However, creating an entirely new football "world".. that might turn some heads. There is a ball in the other developer's courts. They're just not making a play.
