I don't mind the idea from the depth standpoint, but this (and some other franchise suggestions) need to be "options" so that you can tailor the depth or required time to your own situation. Particularly if you play in multi-user franchises.

Excellent idea as long as it is implemented in a way that more casual gamers or people with lots of time restrictions (kids, work, wife, whatever) can sim it or skip it without it affecting the game-play for those people.

Maybe even having the OC's ratings have an effect on how much of the playbook is available to a point in the sim situation?

I really like what NBA 2k did with their association mode. They list all the association tasks (training, scouting, etc), and you can select which ones you want the CPU to take care of. Those that want the full experience can check nothing, those that just want to play the games can check everything. You can go back at any time and change your selections. That way, it caters to everybody.

Re: Proposed playcalling system fo '11

^^ That is cool, so long as...

...it is balanced - in other words let's say you are playing a multi-user franchise online and they set it up like you are suggesting where you can sim it all, or change your "check boxes" when you have time to do them. That is an awesome idea as long as the guys who have the time to do all the things manually do not get a competitive advantage over the guys who can only play their games.

Does that make sense?

Yeah. I didn't pick up this year's version and it's been a while since I played last year's, so I can't remember the specifics of how it was done. I'd suggest the best way to do it for multi-user franchises is simply have the one set of checkboxes which can be agreed upon by those involved.

For one user, though, it's really helpful. I don't care much for all the owner/GM-type stuff, so I checked pretty much anything and went in knowing I wasn't going to end up screwing up by not scouting/practicing/whatever.

I love the idea, but the whole agree upon the check boxes means you have to trust that no one is changing theirs to gain a competitive advantage - so they need to offer no advantage over the sim choice or be a "lockable feature" where once the "Commish" sets it, the individual members can not change their check boxes!

Exactly what I suggested. In a multi-user franchise, just have the one set that's done before starting, rather than giving everyone their own.
