Yeah it can't be 360 and PS3 sales since they've went up...

I got it from this site: http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Madden_NFL Although you do have a point, the source graph on the site is a bit vague and incomplete. I'm recompiling the graph now with numbers from a better source.

Madden NFL 2006 5.12 million: 3.71 million in US (PS2), 1.41 million in US (Xbox)
Madden NFL 2007 4.72 million: 2.8 million in US (PS2), 1.72 million in US (Xbox 360)
Madden NFL 2008 3.61 million: 1.9 million in US (PS2), 1.51 million in US (Xbox 360)

Those sales there seem more believable since Madden sales have gone down overall (all systems combined) due to the Wii version (Madden and other sports games aside from the mini game oriented ones just don't do well on the wii) and also due to the PS2's demise. Still doesn't give a source for that chart though...

I don't know where that ugly chart above came from, but you know I got the sales numbers covered guys.

Keep in mind they are making $$$ on advertisements, and probably printing money via Madden Ultimate Team (despite it's flawed design). Sales don't tell the whole story, when you're taking more $$$ from your existing customer base, instead of expanding the customer base.

Alright, that seems believable (notice the PS2 sales).

Is that from NPD?

@ Valderez

Looks like the demise of the PS2 and the lack of uptake on PS3 is a major factor.

2007 was the biggest year because PS2 wasn't gone yet, and 360 received a massive boost.

Re: Realistically, do you see the NFL ending the exclusivity deal?

I'm going to be the one who says this, but the NFL itself will drop the whole idea of the exclusive deal.

They will go back to letting everyone make a NFL game, and pay their royalties to the NFL.

I know many of you won't agree, but it will happen. Just watch, and remember you head it here first.
