I believe this is a result of pirated games more than anything else

Pony up the $10 or buy it new if online is that important.

Besides, game companies see zero profits from the sale of a used game... I see no reason why they shouldn't receive at least SOME compensation for their hard work with EVERY copy that is sold.

Half the people on these boards complain about how much they hate that the Gamestops of the world make so much money off used games, and thinks the devs should be the ones seeing the payback, yet when a company actually does something about it, everyone bitches.
it was just a matter of time before something like this would happen......so does this mean used games will be cheaper now? i mean, will the seller take this into consideration since it lowers the value of the game even more now. just a thought.....

One more thing, the PS2 was never in the PS3, it was an emulator that is written to the HD. That's y if you swap a HD out of a B/C PS3 it loses the B/C. The 360s B/C works the same way as being an emulator on the HD.

I thought the original batch of 60GB & 20GB PS3's had the PS2 chipset installed and then the 80GB went to the software emulation?

that is TOTALLY WRONG.

the PS2 chips (emotion engine and the graphics synthesizer) were on the motherboards...

the original 80gig version had a mix of software and hardware for its BC...

the 40gig/120gig/160gig/(and some 80gigs) one had/have no BC....beside PS1 games...

(US)60gig/20gig one had Full BC.....these are the ones that had the chips on the motherboards....

They all had some hardware components, which is why they can't just tack on a firmware update and flip the switch back on again. They stated that to do it now they'd have to do it title by title which is what MS did and that it wasn't worth the resources.

Kinda OT though.

Remember when everything that was intended to be in video games were included on the original disc, when you could bring any game you owned to anyones house and still utilize all its features, when you could buy games from any store or any person new or used and utilize all the features, when there was no waiting 3 months for a game to be patched several times to get it playing properly, no getting charged for frivelous add ons or a handful of maps that were released with a game that is 4 years old (looks at infinity ward)...ahhhh, the good old days.

Re: ONLINE PASS FOR MADDEN 11

They see no profit from used games? In order for them to be used, someone has to buy them in the first place. Madden is going to sell millions of copies. This is price gouging at it's finest. When you buy a used car, the original manufacturer does not get any money from it. They made their money off the initial purchase of the vehicle. It's the same with buying anything used. The only difference is that EA still has control over what you do with the game despite the fact that you buy it used.

The people saying oh who cares buy it new this won't change anything for me are missing the big picture. They see that this will work and that they make a ton of money doing it, what is to stop them from selling more crap as DLC or charging you $10 to go online with the game. The fact that I pay for Live to be able to go online and I would have to pay again if I wanted to go online with the game if I got it used is complete crap. Can't wait until Madden 12 where the create a player feature is paid DLC. Or maybe precious roster updates. Maybe if EA focused more on creating a worthwhile product and not on how they can best bilk customers out of money every year they wouldn't have to worry about so many people trading in their game so others can buy it used.
