Re: How's Your Franchise Going- Madden 12 Edition

Year 10 Offseason continues:

Scouting Combine

The Bucs enter the Combine looking for options at QB as well as some depth in the secondary, especially now with SS Dozier heading to free agency. WR is also of interest since there are just 3 on the roster. A few linebackers and defensive linemen might get scouted just to see if there's some fast and athletic standouts that could be steals later, much in the vein of DE Stephen Hosey last year.

Here's how the team saw the kids they looked at with depth at the Combine:

No one really jumped out in the athleticism department among the quarterbacks. One young man, #6 Jake Stewart, looked especially immobile and stiff. Evading the rush might be an issue for him. The most athletic is probably Antonio Shellard out of Oklahoma State. He had an impressive showing in the bench press. The big knock on him, though, is his conditioning, or perhaps his will to play when the game turns into a grind.

The team looked at just one running back, a fullback with the idea of turning him into a power HB in the vein of former Buc LeGarrete Blount. Nevin Holliday is his name. He's a projected 7th round pick, so perhaps this might be good for the kid as well since he's not considered a good fullback prospect.

Emmanuel Jefferson, WR. He jumped off the field at us in the 40 with 4.3 speed and showed a strong burst off the line as well as after cuts in the position drills. He had the second gear to chase down deep balls as well. He's on the short side, just 5' 11" and that might be what lowered his projection to 3rd round.

Colorado State product Jerome Carter, LT, looked strong. He has a good punch that looks to disrupt the rush momentum of the defensive end while keeping his wits about him should the defender gain an advantage over him. He's projected as a first rounder, and might not be in reach for us, but stranger things have happened.

Darby Robinson, a DE from Mid Tenn State, looks like a perfect compliment to our Hosey. Pretty much the same kind of player, quick, great get off, physical enough to fight through contact get a OT off balance. Unlike Hosey, it's easy to see why he's lower graded - he has a rather checkered injury history, including missing his senior year due to knee problems, and he's 24 - on the older side. If he's still a developmental type player in terms of technique and football knowledge, he could be something of a risk.

DE David Aguzie is pretty much like Robinson, but without the injury problems and just 22. As such, he's a 2nd round projection.

DT Octavious Banks from Nebraska is a smaller tackle, just 295 pounds, but yet he showed off in the bench press with 44 reps. He also posted solid 3-cone and 5-10-5 times, making him an interesting looking young DT. I think a lot of teams will be tempted to make him a power DE instead, including us.

The DBs we saw were disappointing as a group. The best one we liked was Julius Grant from Washington. He didn't stand out much at the Combine, but he wasn't terrible. His big claim to fame is his big hits. Frequently on tape, we could see him intimidate WR coming into his area and is not shy at all about coming up in run support.

Overall, the Combine was a little disappointing in terms of finding some targets right after the events, but there's a few that we are kind of high on. WR Emmanuel Jefferson might be the highest on our board along with DE David Aguzie, DT Octavious Banks and SS Julius Grant as well. QB Jake Stewart will probably get more looks as well along with QB Anthony Shellard.

Free Agency:
The Bucs don't have much cap room, and weren't major factors in free agency.

The team signed one WR, Art Lucas, a 26 year old who's known for his soft hands. Problem is, he's...not too bright, and his other skills as a WR are questionable. Signed a 5 yr, $5.79 M contract, so he's cheap at least.

Elsewhere, SS Geno Dozier got a 6 yr, $41 million contract from the Vikings. So he stays in the NFC and goes to one of the better teams in the conference. The Vikings also added Mike Norton - a dependable outside linebacker that's relatively young and posted 105 tackles last season. The Seahawks signed DE Davarius Barksdale to the biggest contract of the period, a $54 million deal covering 6 years. QB Philip Rivers goes to Tennessee, signing a 3 year, $29 million contract. The Chargers settled for QB Dennis Lamb, a pretty mediocre QB. The Ravens didn't sign any QBs - perhaps they are looking at the draft.

WR Dez Bryant takes his 4-time Pro Bowl skills to Tennessee, but he is coming off his worst season in his career, accounting for just 433 yards and 2 TDs. Bryant got a 3-year, $21 million deal. Titans also grabbed LB Clay Matthews for $17.5 million over 3 years. Matthews racked up 113 sacks for Green Bay, and will look to stay strong for his new team.

Piper News:
The Bucs and Chargers completed a trade that sends Piper to the Chargers for a 1st in the coming draft (#21) and a 3rd next season.

This closes the book on the Piper saga, looking to clear the way for Gabbert to be the definitive starter in the coming season.

Re: How's Your Franchise Going- Madden 12 Edition

this week's match up was against the cards and oh boy did it get ugly fast for the cards... kolb threw 4 first quarter int's and before u knew it was 21-0 browns first quarter ends and its 28-7 browns. by halftime it was 42-10... third quarter start and the wheels fall off more for kolb and company this time haden picks him off and returns it to house for 6 and yet again very next time cards get it and bam buster skrine gets in the action and pick 6's kolb and before knew it was 56-10 browns cards get shut out in 3rd and we score yet again on a richardson td run 63-10 browns. browns get ball back and score again 70-10 browns.. i put the back up in and cards get a late td final score 70-17. kolb ended up throwing 7 picks in game had 3 returned for td's was a 4th but got called back for clipping.not sure if i'll get the passing yards record with 2 games left weeden 4,387 he would need 500 yards passing the next 2 games or there about's. recieving tds i may break im only 4 away from that with travis benjamin doubt i'll get receptions neither as benjamin only has 87 and records 143.

Re: How's Your Franchise Going- Madden 12 Edition

Titans update - YR 10

The Locker era has lasted eight seasons (of nine completed) as both sides hit the negotiation table to hammer out a new deal. Locker led the team to their first postseason appearance back in YR 3 (in this franchise). Locker has since led the team to a 12-4 postseason record in seven trips. Most importantly, he has paved the way to four Superbowl appearances, resulting in three championships.

Fortunately, Locker (84) gave us the hometown discount (3 YR/$7.2 M) to stay in Titan blue. Some believe the defense has been more instrumental in bringing the titles to Nashville than Locker himself. Locker is entering his tenth season (ninth as starter) with a career QB rating of 85.3 and just over 30,000 career passing yards.

The Titans open the season without Rob Bironas, who retired in the off-season after a title. I've never been so sad to see a kicker go. He even had the Team Mentor role. Former Eagles kicker Alex Henery was signed to replace him.

Former Arkansas WR Greg Childs (79) was brought in to play #2 wideout opposite Victor Cruz (86). Childs lasted only half of the opening drive to begin the season before tearing his pectoral muscle, sending him to the IR. This will allow other guys to get some action, moving WR Derek Moye (70) to #2 and newly acquired WR Eric Decker (73) to the slot. The Titans also drafted a young speedster, Carlos Cheeseboro (68), to join their ranks. Cheeseboro may or may not have been drafted purely because of his awesome name..

On defense, the old gang is back. Headlined by linebackers Gibson (97) and Carrington (97), this group will be a headache for any team regardless of matchup. Free safety Chauncey Simon (99) had some nice progression to become the top safety in the NFL. Sources around the league are speculating that it could be Revis' final season and fans should get tickets to see him while they still can. I sure hope Revis (95) isn't about to pull a Chipper Jones with a farewell tour..

Other than WR Cheeseboro, the draft brought in a few new faces. The defensive line got a good boost to depth with DT Sharif Wheeler (80 OVR - 95 STR, 89 PMV). Wheeler was the second round pick and will play backup to starter Stephen Paea (83), who is entering the final year of his deal and likely with the team if he doesn't take a pay cut. Wheeler is more suited for the 3-4 and will likely become Paea's successor next season. Titans scouts finally successfully scouted a CB, Sintamuel Bodiford (80 OVR - 94 SPD, 89 MCV, 84 ZCV), who was the first round pick. If Revis retires, Bodiford will likely move from the #4 to #2 corner, leapfrogging the declining Alterraun Verner (81).

More on this season.. Had some extra time so I have been cranking out games.

The Titans have opened up their year on a rampage, going 7-1 in the first half of the season. LB Gibson was injured (broken ribs) and will be out for three weeks, one being a BYE week. Gibson was the #1 LB in Pro Bowl vote-getting and Defensive Player of the Year voting. Big short-term loss there.

Locker is having a better season this year with 10 TDs and 11 INTs, and no picks in three weeks. Three weeks! That's got to be some kind of record for him.

Von Miller is having an unbelievable start to the season with nine sacks in his first eight games. LB Carrington is putting up his usual numbers with 74 tackles so far. Gibson doesn't have huge tackle numbers (49), but has three interceptions and a game-winning fumble recovery returned for a TD in a 10-3 game.

If it is a farewell tour, Revis is making the most of it. He has picked off five passes so far, all in different games.

All-Time Career Interception Leaders
1) Paul Karuse, MIN 81
2) Emlen Tunnell, NYG 79
3) Rod Woodson, PIT 71
4) Champ Bailey, DEN 69
T-5) Asante Samuel, PHI 68
T-5) Dick Lane, DET 68
7) Darrelle Revis, TEN 67
8) Ken Riley, CIN 65
9) Ed Reed, BAL 64
10) Ronnie Lott, SF 63

That's why I save IMMEDIATELY after every game, then go back to do the write-ups and such (which is a reason why it doesn't always have those things in it that were suggested to me, I piece together what I remember and use the scoring summary and a little imagination to put it together).

I've had this game freeze instantly after saying it saved...I don't take chances, I don't supersim at all anymore, etc. I'd be livid in your position if I had lost progress like that.

Re: How's Your Franchise Going- Madden 12 Edition

My brother showed me that under coach you can have practice, but he said something about doing drills to get your player's stats up? I didnt see it anywhere. Does having practices increase your player's overall ratings or is it just there? I thought only playing games increased their stats.
