An easy fix would be to allow player exp for practices (when in coach mode). That would allow us to develop backups. This would also make practices more enjoyable...I'm already getting really bored with it.

I disagree with the potential system being a better way. Players get better by playing, not sitting on the sideline. Their isn't one sport that I know of that you get better 'just because' -- you improve by playing. So far, from what I've been reading, this system seems to be more of step up from the progression system. I've really wanted a system like this for awhile, hopefully its implemented right. I'll see tomorrow.

Earlier someone stated stats based progression is ridiculous because having a great year doesn't mean it should be easier to have a great year next year and said some players have bad or average seasons the next year what your not taking into account is that he will regress if he has a bad year that next season so it can balance out you have a great year improve then all of a sudden suck and regress. I'm not saying this system is perfect. I agree that goals for backups should be lessened but only at certain spots. Backup QB's rarely get in games but at WR and HB most teams sub in and out constantly.

Basketball is about as close as you can get. If you don't put in the work to increase your dribbling, shooting, etc in drills you aren't going to be successful in games or in a 1 on 1 situation.

Football also. Especially at the QB and WR position. The game is mostly mental at that point. For a QB he has to read coverages (Film Room Study), and get his timing right with the Reciever (Which you can only do in practice). For a reciever the only way to improve is to get your route running to perfection (This is what separates the Scrubs from the Good to the Great recievers). Which involves running the same route over and over...in Practice. What you do in practice THEN translates to a game setting. This should really only affect AWR and other ratings like that (such as Play Recognition, Route Running, Tackling, etc).

Re: Team goals are Tough!

I would love the player exp for practices because we could finally get our backups so more love.

the first upgrade I went for was the coach scouting upgrade, it may have taken 2 years about to do it, but it would be nice if they also had an exp package for backups or something

If I progress my players then do a practice and say i fail at my offense goal I notice my D players get xp and it goes the other way also. Unless Im just crazy but I swear I think how this is how its working.

The thing is this is a game, where those numbers aren't best guesses of what a player should be rated. It is DIRECTLY tied to their on field ability. So the amazing year, increase 10 overall points...makes him that much better where the next year is is VERY unlikely he would go down at all. A 70 overall RB who gets 1800 yards isnt like real life where oh, i guess we had him rated wrong he should be bumped a bit to 85. It means those attributes let him get 1800 yards so if we increase him a ton it will be that much easier to get those yards (aside from things like blocking which has nothing to do with the RB progression, meaning that is the only thing on the same team that can cause a worse year the next year.)

Re: Team goals are Tough!

A couple thoughts:

Practice makes every single person better. The guy who said you only improve by playing on the field on Sundays is insane. So I guess there is no point in having training camp, watching tape, practicing, etc since the only place to improve is on the field on Sundays . Anyone who has played sports in their lifetimes know that practicing improves you as a player. Watching tape, catching balls, practicing against the first teamers in practices, etc. The are all mental and physical reps that improve players. That should be reflected for your rookies and some backups. They should get credit for going through a year of practicing and being on the team. Nobody is saying they should go from a 60 to a 75 for practicing, but it would be nice to see a rookie 2nd string QB get 2-3 better during his first year for doing so. The tape they watch and heightened practice speed alone should increase their awareness if nothing else.

As a 2nd point. I saw some guy say that its not fair that if you draft a top pick at tackle he doesnt improve at all when he sits behind your starter. Well O-line is one position where everyone gets credit. I know this because for example my RG has a top tier goal of something like 2200 total team rushing yards. Well I was looking through and some other lineman who were backups had the same goal. Well the backups were getting credit too because all it did was calculate total team rushing yards. So if you have 1500 team rushing yards every single lineman, starter or bench guy, gets credit for those 1500 team rushing yards. As a result your backups will improve on the o-line a little since they get credit for your teams stats. Another one was a pass blocking O-lineman had a top goal of 35 passing TD's. Well all the game does is lookup to see the passing TD total, regardless of starters. So a 2nd string tackle who has that top goal will get credit because all the game does is pull in stats.

At QB, RB, WR, and TE it is frustrating because the goals arent team based they are individual. O-line thought isnt a problem. As for Defense I havent looked yet so maybe someone else can comment.
