How Does the PS4 Impact Future Madden Titles?

Last week, Sony announced the PlayStation 4, and while they didn't show the console itself, they did reveal the specs. There's a lot of fast memory in this thing (8GB GDDR5 RAM, to be more specific), and one thing that Madden developers complained about in the past was the lack of memory in current gen consoles, especially on the PS3.

Imagine the possibilities. We could see:
  • Fully-interactive, fully-rendered sidelines
  • Better character modes in the stadium crowd
  • Better, complex AI (Offensive Line play could benefit the most from this)
  • Better player models, with more variances in how height & weight affect gameplay
  • Better detailed player & coach faces
  • Full implementation of TRUE real-time physics
  • Real-time presentation, a la NFL 2K5 & MLB 12 The Show
  • Full implementation of TRUE physics-based locomotion

Or, EA Tiburon could just drop the ball and prove that they are as inept as some of us think they are.

What do you guys think will happen on the next generation of consoles?

EDIT: Due to Sony using a PC architecture, we could also see a return to the PC platform for Madden...

Lets not forget full 80 man rosters/practice squads.

No more deleted players from free agency.

That sort of thing also will come into play.

I hope so but EA/Tiburon have been dropping the ball for ages so would not be suprised if it was the same.

I guess I'm not nearly as cynical as Owen Good is in that article.

This console generation was more about graphics than substance; I feel like next-gen will be the opposite. Yeah, it's gonna be a case of diminishing returns at first, but maybe we'll get bigger games with more live, fleshed-out worlds.

In the case of sports gaming, it'll be more about the little things; adding the more minute details, enhancing AI, that sort of thing. I think the potential for next-gen is sky high, especially if the developers can do more with enhanced tech than just blocking used games and padding on microtransactions...

Nothing wrong with being optiistic, but at the same time fool me once...I have high hopes for other genres of games on Gen 4 systems. I think the next Elder Scrolls game could be huge, but that is a game that will be in development for a couple of years. Sports game are usually in development for about 10 months.

IMO 10 months isn't enough time to fully understand the tech and get the most out of it. So while sports game could eventually get to the point of being what you think they could be, I'm not going to make the same mistake of paying upwards of $70 every year for games that make incremental improvements.

Hell look at CCM, that was in development for Two Years! If that is the best that we can hope for from the biggest sports game publisher out there it would be silly to think that with less time on a new system to see tremendous improvement. But to each their own and I don't want to do anything to quell your excitement. I just choose not to let sports games be the driving force of my Gen 4 system excitement.

This is still Tiburon we're dealing with. It would be nice to think with these new systems we'd get an amazing football game, but these guys have yet to show they can provide that. I know there are a few new pieces with the team, but they've got to show me something worth my praise. Funny thing is a couple of those things listed in the op, we should've had this generation. SMH.
