That's just silly talk man.. you're being sucked into the entire big name type of thing. Baseball is so much more than that, specially in a market like the Giants have. We definitely are the Yankees, so taking on contracts of 15m+ in place of guys that either havent reached the age of 20, or are just out of college... Think again.

Bumgarner is NINETEEN and flat out dominating. Regardless of what he becomes, he does possess the upside potential that people dream of. He's a lefty as well.

Posey has also shown to be something special. Since he's a converted shortstop, he's still somewhat learning to be a backstop, but definitely on the fast track. Great athletic ability too.

Now as much as I'd like to see the Giants compete RIGHT NOW, which trading for a huge bat would do.. I don't want to go through that process of possibly competing now, but sacrificing the future for it either. We've all seen it happen, why would we do it again? If management wasn't willing to part with Lowry, Sanchez, or Cain.. no way they throw out Bumgarner. Thankfully.

For Miguel or Howard I would do that in a heart beat! You have to give some talent to get some talent. Unless you sign them as a free Agent. Now is the time to go get a big bat. This division is wide open.

Cabrera makes 19m/year
Howard makes 18m/year

Neither would be traded anyhow, so it's out of the question. Bats that have been denied already include the likes of Rios and the possibilities of Holliday

This isn't the NBA. Tim Lincecum makes 650k. So guys that are coming up are a lot more valuable than ever, specially in a market such as this. The division is open to a certain extent, but the Dodgers are CLEARLY in a dominant position. Not to mention they're getting a huge burst come July.

Re: 2009 San Francisco Giants

MAN after these past two games in SD we definitely needs some bats. Zito is finally pitching well and even pitched a complete game. The only mistakes were the two bombs he gave up. Then Sanchez had a good outing as well last night. Sooo frustrating to watch them when we are starting to pitch well and can't even produce any runs. Looks like the pitchers need to hit the batting cage and start manufacturing their own runs like Cain did the other day against the Mets.

Unfortunately I don't see that as an excuse. These men are being paid millions of dollars to make outs, and I don't mean offensively (which they do, as you have probably read my rant). If he can't get it done, we find somebody else that can. Where's Lowry, by the way?

And there's all this talk about getting #4 hitters for $17.6 or $18.6 million more than what Bonds is asking? Some loyal fans ya'll are!

You're comparing active #4 hitters to BARRY FREAKIN' BONDS!? I know you love the man, but come on. The man is 40+ years old who can't even crack a minor league contract. SMH.

So let me ask this question to you Giants fans. When do you guys plan on taking advantage of the Mannyless Dodgers?
