Actually they have a stud first basemen down on the farm, there has been talks about it before. Even a straight up trade for Cain was talk about a year ago, but nothing came out of it. He is trade able. I doubt it will happen, but SD will probably try to trade him soon.

Heh... well that's why I suggested Ramirez or Sheffield during the offseason when the option was available.

There are other guys that we could have held onto like Shea Hillenbrand. Now I know he isn't the answer (not even close, in fact), but we just let them go and moved onto the next scrub rookie while he could have done some more good for us.

Honestly, I don't know who is available... but if I had to pick one that could fit for this role, I would say Jermaine Dye or Jorge Cantu.

I'm personally not willing to shell a lot of money just to get a guy that is more or less only a home run threat. Cantu can do so much more plus give you 25 - 30 home runs. I'm not saying he's a #4 hitter, but I think if you truly want one, we have a very cheap one in Bonds. Otherwise, the other ones are either too expensive or left-handed and therefore not so much worth the bill.

Again, I was just throwing out a suggestion. Cantu is still very young and is a big step up above Aurilia and Ishikawa (who can field, but so can Jorge).

I'm just saying that there are other options other than banking on a guy who, while he may be a deep fly ball threat, is also lacking in other departments (contact, speed, fielding) and may not work in a park like San Francisco.

The reason I always say that Bonds is an exception is because we have seen him dominate right field before when no one else could (yes, I understand that he's older) and because even if he doesn't hit many home runs he will still have an incredibly high on base percentage and decent average. Plus, even if he only hits .250 and doesn't homer, we could just release him at the small cost of the same amount of wins we would have had without him and $300K out (which would instantly come back by the amount of extra fans that paid to see Bonds). With Bonds, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Re: 2009 San Francisco Giants

I never said trade Cain for Dye, I don't want any of our starting pitchers traded (including Sanchez).

And in that case, this seems like even more of a reason to go to the free agent market. Let's search under 'B'...

Re: 2009 San Francisco Giants

I think Carney Lansford needs to be taken to task for some of these hitting problems. The whole teams approach is horrible. Cant move guys over. Cant get RISP in consistently. Some of that is the player, but some of it is on Carney. Lately its been better but we know how bad it can get. Sabean is now looking for a bat. Come on now. One bat makes no difference at this point. I have been hard on Sabean because of his arrogant, wait and see attitude that leads to desperate moves and even more excuses when these moves fail. One move I think works for now is a deal for Aubrey Huff because it makes you better now (which don't mean much being 9 games back) and it will keep Ishikawa as the backup, because truthfully that's all he should be asked to do at this point of his career. On no other team would he be a starter except the Giants. NONE!!! And while they are at it, DFA Aurilia and keep Frandsen up. Frandsen should have been up the whole time while Velez was here stealing time and a check. The guy deserves a real shot as well as he can play multiple positions like Aurilia but is younger with more to gain for the future. But ultimately they must fire Sabean. Hire the Asian chick that is Colletti's assistant in LA. Fire Bochy and hire Brett Butler from AAA Reno(Diamondbacks). He can give the team some fire in the dugout and big head Bochy looks a little disinterested to me.
