Re: Does MLB "The Show" warrant the purchase of a PS3?

Why buy a PS3 with all it's fancy hi-def gaming, blu-ray playing, dvd upscaling, internet browsing, free online community, and numerous other photo/music/video capabilities when you can use that same money to buy an iPhone that comes with it's very own long term blood sucking contract?

I know it's comparing apples to oranges (actually it's Apples to Sonys), but I just think it's funny how I still hear people hemming & hawing over the price of the PS3 when there are so many other over-hyped, over-priced & under-whelming products out there that are just flying off the shelves (not to mention defective...I'm looking at you Microsoft). The PS3 is awesome, it is a fantastic state of the art multi-media hub that will provide years of entertainment and joy. It even can help find cures for diseases with the Folding at Home program. Ok, so you can't make phone calls with it, but then again you can't play the full featured, hi-def, Ultimate Baseball Fanatic edition of MLB '08: The Show on anything else!

Easily my favorite sports title of all time. I love NBA 2k8 but... damn, The Show is that much better.
Between Uncharted and MLB: The Show, you have 2 of the best games on the PS3.

OK, guys. I'm getting a ps3 for Xmas mainly for sports games and BRays. I have never really played the Show on any console and am wondering what actually makes this BB game so special. I've played MVP05 for the PC, how does it compare to that other than having MUCH better graphics on the ps3?

You folks should pick up Ratchet and Clank as well... I've played through that game 3 times now (had to fill some time until Uncharted came out!)

Beat uncharted Monday night - what a fantastic game/story/experience, tho I think I had more fun with Ratchet.

(Oh yea, glad you all enjoy The Show enough to get a PS3!)

MLB: The Show is the best console sports sim on the market, hands down. I purchased my PS3 last January, but did it knowing that I would eventually buy it when MLB: The Show 07 released in the Spring. To me, it was well worth it.

My .02

I don't think any system is worth it for one game. With that said I purchased a PS3 for just one game. MLB The Show.

It's by far the best sports game out IMO. So if you're a baseball fan and you want the best simulation of it then yes the PS3 is worth it. Within the next year I'm positive there will be more games out that I will get for the system. (Little Big Planet for one) So while I have been up and down about purchasing a PS3 just for The Show, I'm glad I kept it.

Ratchet and Haze are the next games on my PS3 list. Uncharted will go up there as one of the best gaming experiences ever, along with Call of Duty 4. I don't want to take up this thread...............Uncharted has a very good Indiana Jones/National Treasure/Tomb Raider storyline, with some fun combat.....that does get a little bit too much by the end of the game.

Kolbe, is the names database going to be in MLB'08 from '07 with the last names that we had submitted?

Thanks
