MLB09 SaveReader "BETA" release v 0.50b

EDIT: See my last post below. Beta release will be delayed about 1 1/2 weeks due to technical issues.

Here's the first (beta) release of the MLB09 Save Reader. This is a pretty raw release... it's not had it's user interface cleaned up, it still doesn't export everything, the team pages aren't done, etc, but it's the first step to getting something out there. The first thing that this release will accomplish is to see how compatible it is with everyone's save files. I've done 95% of the testing on this release with a franchise save. It may not read anything else, then again, it might. It should work on a straight roster save.

Here's a quickie tutorial on how to use it...

  1. Get your save file off of your PS3. I use a flash drive. Hit triangle when you are on the save file and copy it over to the flash drive.
  2. Put it in your PC. Copy it over somewhere.
  3. Install the save reader. The Setup.exe should do all the work. I haven't tested it, though, so it may have problems (BETA!).
  4. Run it. You should have desktop and/or start menu shortcut. EDIT: Shortcuts don't work, find the exe file in your installation directory (Thanks to ImTellinTim below). You should get the "No data file present" message the first time. That's OK.
  5. Click "Load Save File". Now you have to find your PS3 save on your PC that you copied from your flash drive/memory stick/etc. There will probably be a PS3 folder and maybe another one inside that. Eventually, you will see a folder named something like BCUS98180_ and either FRAN, ROST, CARR (franchise, roster, and career) followed by a bunch of numbers. Your save file is in that folder. It starts with a "S" and a 5-digit number (like S45035). Select that file and click open and hopefully the Save Reader with start reading your data.
  6. This may take a few minutes. A franchise/season/RttS save is over 20 Mb in size, so unless you have a speedy PC with a bunch of memory, it will take a little time.
  7. Once it's done (the status will probably say "boxopp query created" and not be completely to 100%), you can pick one of the drop-down boxes at the top of the screen and select something and it should show you some players in the large box below.
  8. The "Team Roster" and "Team Box Scores" buttons will generate those pages for whatever team you have selected in the second drop-down box.
  9. For player pages, select a player for the list, select the page type from the drop-down at the right, then click "Generate Output". You'll get the pages in the directory where you installed the save reader.
  10. No multiple selection of players yet... that's coming.
  11. Yes, there are some things that don't work or link correctly yet. (BETA!)
  12. I just wanted to get you all something to play with before I head out for vacation.
  13. If something major doesn't work, let me know, otherwise... I'll fix it on the next release. I built this release package at work, so it may have to wait until I get home tonight for any updates if it's really broken. Bear with me on that.
  14. This thing is totally customizable as far as the output goes... have fun with it. Those web-savvy people should be able to figure it out.
  15. Thanks for all your support and kind words.
- Rich

Re: MLB09 SaveReader "BETA" release v 0.50b

Setup works, but the shortcuts produced do not point to the correct file. The shortcut on the desktop simply opens a box containing everything that is on the desktop.

Same with the start menu shortcut.

Found the .exe in the program files folder and opened. Got an error message, but clicked OK and the program is now open. I am in the process of transferring my file from the ps3. I'll post results.

I'm assuming it was the "No data file" message. If not, we've got an issue.

Tried to install but it says I need some kind of .NET Framework. What's that?

Yep, we've got an issue. Here is the error message that pops up when I try to load the frachise file:

"An unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will be shut down immediately. COM object with CLSID {00000010-0000-0010-8000-00AA006D2EA4} is either not valid or not registered."

When you click the details, this pops up:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just in time (JIT) debugging, the config file for this
application or machine (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.
For example:

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the machine
rather than being handled by this dialog.

Hope this helps.
