OSFM 2016: Kansas City Royals

In the below list I have more than 90 players (101). Some of the guys who are on here are non-roster invitees to Spring Training that may get released. Some are just roster filler types that will only make the game if they are in AA or above. I have listed projected potentials. Anyone without a potential listed is a D or worse. BLUE font are guys that should be in the game already. ORANGE font is guys that were SCEA players in a previous year.

Also, I always have a lot more Starting Pitchers than Relievers. Most of these starters will get moved to RP if they actually progress, but I don’t want to place a guess on which ones make it and which don’t.

Re: OSFM 2016: Kansas City Royals

Louis Coleman was released today.

Royals signed Travis Snider to a minor league deal earlier in the week. Doesn't change much as both guys would be in the game already.

Re: OSFM 2016: Kansas City Royals

Baseball America handbook top 30 came out. I have them listed below with anticipated potentials, and likely 2016 starting affiliates. I have also provided comments on some.

1-Raul Mondesi (A-/B+): AA. He could be in the game already, as he played in the playoffs last year.

2-Kyle Zimmer (B+): AA/AAA. Zimmer has Ace level stuff, but has never been healthly. His individual ratings grade out well, but the injury history makes it tough to give him too high of a potential

3-Bubba Starling (B-/C+): AA. Tools galore, but will have some areas rated low.

4-Miguel Almonte: should be in the game. I'd give him a C+/B-. AAA

5-Nolan Watson (C+): Low A

6-Addison Russell (C+/B-): Low A. I like him better than Watson

7-Martin Gasparini (C+): Low A

8-Matt Straham (C+/C): High A/AA

9. Scott Blewett (C+): More upside than Strahm. Low A

10. Cheslor Cuthbert: Should be in the game. I'd give him a C. Will be at AAA

11. Jorge Bonifacio (C): Likely in AA. One time top 100 guy.

12. Alec Mills (C): AA

13. Foster Griffin (C): Low A

14. Ryan O'Hearn (C): AA, possibly High A to start. Good breakout candidate

15. Josh Staumont (C/C+): He will be a boom or bust guy. Good upside, but cannot throw strikes. Probably at low A

16. Chase Vallot (C/C+): Low A. Will be a fun guy to watch. Tons of power, walks a lot, strikes out way too much

17. Brett Eibner (C/C-): AAA or possibly MLB

18. Pedro Fernandez (C): High A

19. Gerson Garabito: He won't make it into the game. Too far removed from the big leagues, and not high enough on the list.

20. Ramon Torres (C-): AA

21. Amalani Fukofuka (C-/C): low A. May not make the cut for the game

22. Cam Gallagher: (C-/D+): AA or high A. This is a pretty generous ranking, In my opinion

23. Brian Flynn: (C-): AAA or MLB. Was in the game last year.

24. Jose Martinez (C-/D+): AAA or MLB. Guy who literally came out of nowhere last year as a 26 year old non-prospect who hit 384 in AAA. Still not sure if he's for real or not.

25. Alfredo Escalera (C): I think this ranking is a little low. I would have him around 15-18. High A.

26. Elier Hernandez (C): One time big bonus guy who has yet to put his tools to use. Likely High A or possibly AA bound.

27. Ricky Aracena: Too far away to make the game. 18 year old looks like Altuve-light.

28. Seuly Matias: Too far away to make the game. Big bonus guy from last year, just 17 years old.

29. Jeison Guzman: Same story as Matias above.

30. Hunter Dozier: (D+/C-): former 1st rounder who was top 100 the last 2 years and absolutely crapped the bed last year. Has been just horrible at the AA level over 2 years. Still has something there, but needs to figure it out quick.

With a couple of exceptions, you could put #7-30 in a hat and mix them all up and make a strong argument for each ranking. In fact, as other rankings come out, you'll see those same guys shuffled around quite a bit.

Re: OSFM 2016: Kansas City Royals

Royals have reached minor league deals with Clayton Mortenson (SP/RP) and Allan de San Miguel (C).

Mortenson should be fine to just use last year's model. I'd say there's a good shot he ends up in AAA, but surely one of the other older minor league guys (Moylan, Wang, Lannan, etc) ends up being released during ST.

de San Miguel is currently the catcher for the Australian team in the WBC qualifier. He's bounced around a little the past few years. Looks like he is a 28 year old body to keep a seat warm in AAA or AA so they don't have to rush a prospect. His numbers look, to be frank, awful.

I'd say both guys make the game if they are in AAA. If de San Migel is in AA, I'd probably leave him out in favor of a high A catcher with some degree of prospect possibility (likely Cam Gallagher or Zane Evans if it shakes out that way)

Re: OSFM 2016: Kansas City Royals

KC has signed Clint Barmes (SS), Ross Ohlendorf (RHP), and Jake Duensing (LHP) to minor league deals.

I don't know yet what the opt outs are for any of these guys, but I'd say all should make the roster unless they are released.

Duensing has a decent shot to make the MLB roster as a LHRP.

Re: OSFM 2016: Kansas City Royals

And now they've signed Mike Minor to an MLB deal.

All reports are that he won't be ready until May or June, so he'll be in A ball. This deal is very similar to the Kris Medlen deal from last year. They give him a 2 year deal, hoping he'll be able to contribute a little in year 1, but really looking for him to help in year 2.
