Yep I agree I mean having injuries like broken nose or broken fingernail

Or a “head fracture” is just ridiculous

Not to mention bp guys never get injured ever in the game

But even that’s unnecessarily cumbersome. Just let us pick the exact numbers of days. Why the ridiculous gaps. Nothing between 13 days and 35 days. Then another one between 70 and 120 (I think). There issome variance there getting into those gaps but is it manual injuries or not???

Those are the problems with manual. The stupid gaps and the roster size issue. I wind up sending good players to a-ball and dropping them from the 40man just to save the il slot.

I think roster sizing would require coding (which was devoted to contracts—which I have no interest in).

But how hard can it be to rework the injury days? I suppose it was done originally on purpose. They like it that way????
I think Sony went the ''set it and forget it'' route all those years ago. If I want to put a guy out 6 months with a stomach ache, I'd like to be able to do that once instead of reupping every few days because you can't set it as high as you want in one shot.

I hope we get a salad injury option this year because of Dustin Mays, lol.

I’ve given up relying the logic for injuries. Players only get injured in games. It doesn’t come in between. Too many times the SP goes out in the first inning (creating an impromptu bullpen game). Never does the SP go out before his start (which is how it happens the vast majority of the time IRL). And if a franchise has a certain amount of injuries (and it’s not very many) the rest of the team becomes immortal (can’t be injured) until a slot opens.

At least they give some control if you want it. Manual injuries.

I go in and do manual injuries at the start of the year to mimic all real life opening day injuries. Then 15 days into the season I am hit with dozens and dozens of people coming off the 15 day IL all at the same time. Have to go through and do the lengthy manual injury process all over again for the players who should be out anywhere between 16-59 days.

Because I don’t think there enough pitcher injuries, I’ve gone in and for every time there is a fielder injury randomly assigned a pitcher an injury of a similar length.

Re: We need a new injury system

I'm going to continue to beat a dead horse here and say that half the reason that we can't come anywhere close to "realistic" injuries, or the number of them, is that the roster sizes are simply too small.

Imagine having to use 17 (!!!) different starters like the Dodgers last year? I think the most I've ever had to use (excluding trades) is 8, and two of those were because of production.

Re: We need a new injury system

I did injuries off for many years, but I found no need to have any depth beyond 26-man MLB roster and prospects wouldn't get a "cup of coffee" throughout a season.

I also don't like having to micro-manage minor leagues throughout the year.

My solution, I created a random generator wheel. Only affects MLB roster.
Every day of my franchise I spin in. It tells me Team, Position, Injury Type and Severity.

I then go in game and manually injury the player. No re-dos and no skipping. I lost my RTTS player to a season ending injury in July, that sucked but felt good in a way.

I'll track the results and see what teams really got bit by injury bug and what team had relatively good injury luck.

One change I would like to see is injuries carry-over throughout an offseason. Currently, if you have max injury (254 days) during last week of regular season, come Spring Training the player is no longer injured. It should carry the full 254 days which would be early next season.
I also believe set-backs should be a thing. But with my random wheel I've had players get hurt and then 2 weeks later get another injury and miss more time, that was kind of a set-back in a way.

I personally don't mind the lack of depth in the game because I just like playing the games and letting randomness determine a team's season. I wouldn't enjoy having to send a player on rehab and manage that day-to-day.

In regards to your point about Ohtani, he's so unique that most players would simply not pitch/hit. No need to write such a specific code that only affects 1 player's injury situation.

In fairness to the Ohtani situation (and it really doesn't matter that much to me overall, but still), they wrote a specific code a few years ago because of Pat Venditte's ability as an ambidextrous pitcher...

I wish they would have done something, anything , code-wise, for Shohei last season. There was nothing so immersion breaking for me than Shohei pitching last year in the Show. The only alternative was to manually injure him for the whole season and that was far less appealing than him pitching so I let him be. In my 2024 Mets season, Shohei won the Cy Young. Take that, Tommy John! Your surgery isn't necessary and if you had pitched thru the pain, you might have made it to Cooperstown, lol.
