It truly does depend on the tv you have...however game mode has nothing to do with the resolution like the OP is referring to. It is supposed to help with input lag. Nothing to do with resolution.

Depends on year/model of tv. It's all about reducing input lag. A lot of newer panels have less lag, so it's not necessary.

Is there a big difference between 720 and 1080 on the ps4 ? I only have a 720. At least I haven't had any frame rate issues

I think a lot of people here are confusing what game mode actually does. The primary thing it does is turn off all of the TV's extra processors that try to make the image look better, which in turn decreases the time between when the TV receives the image and when it actually displays the image (input lag). It has nothing to do with make the image look smoother or better.

You will have people that say they cant see a difference. Other will say they can. I can. The frame rate wont be different on either one though.

lol, so as we all said, it turns off the extra enhancements of the tv that tries to make the image look better....

I was under the same impression but after getting a Samsung HDTV it's a little confusing. In this TV turning on Game Mode locks the display on Standard. This means that it is only (?) changing the sharpness/brightness values. Maybe different brands have the Game Mode implemented without reducing picture quality?

My bad I meant the Lag not the resolution. Im guessing it will have less lag than PS3 but still wont be exact real time. However if the picture does look that much more smooth, (these features can iron out some rough edges) without too much of a time lapse perhaps ill just learn to get the timing down with the enhancements on.
