I'll plead ignorance on this.
Why would Zone be better? And timing is no longer an option, right?
I've long been a Directional guy, bc (for me) I felt like it best took ratings into account, but I'm open to listening to arguments otherwise.

Timing was switched to directional a few years ago. However, if you don’t input a direction before the pitch, it works the same as the old timing option used to. I haven’t heard directional mentioned, or seen it used in any of the streams. I couldn’t imagine them removing it though.

Timing alone is no longer an option but if you use directional hitting without inputting any direction it's essentially what timing hitting was.

Not actually sure why I said "zone" in this case. I think if you prefer to use the left stick, then yeah zone.

I did not know this to be the case, at all. In that case, yes directional would be the way to go if you don't aim with the stick.

I didnt even realise the change, I guess I've been using the term ''directional'' & ''timing'' interchangeably all the while lol

This is what I remembered as well. And I can't imagine them taking it out. But I did not realize that if you do not influence at all w/ the left stick, that the option behaves as the old timing method did.

I did stumble upon this helpful thread, though, by TheWarmWind (HERE), that helps try to illustrate what impact the direction of the left stick has in Direction hitting.

I like the old Timing/no-input Direction hitting.
But then again, I like to play with an automated, broadcast feel. I pitch from Broadcast view, set Fielding View to Medium (or Retro is nice, too), automate the actual fielding, play with no OSDs, etc. I control the pitching, the fielder throwing, and the swing only for batters. Such a beautiful, generally well-tuned game, that I just love watching it play out.

That's interesting that using directional without choosing a direction is basically timing. I'll try it out in 18.

I always thought if you do directional and dont influence the direction, the ball will just go straight up the middle. Not true?
