Re: Official MLB The Show 18 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

How do budgets work in fantasy draft? Is your budget for year 2 based on year 1? I’m thinking of adding a couple of high priced guys late in the draft to to increase payroll.

Re: Official MLB The Show 18 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Opening Day

Well as I had assumed, the release of OS forced my hand in re-drafting my team! (As usual lol). Well, having played about 10 games with my old squad, and having a ton of fun with them, I wound up picking a bunch of guys I had originally drafted, to go along with some new ones. I wound up with the 22nd pick, and scooped up Donaldson and Votto with my first two picks. Heres a look at "Mickey's Mets" 25 man roster for opening day:

Mickey's Mets - Opening Day - Depth Chart - 2018
  • Catcher
  • Tyler Flowers (R)
  • Travis d\'Arnaud (R)
  • First Base
  • Joey Votto (L)
  • Second Base
  • Scott Kingery (R)
  • Brad Miller (L)
  • Third Base
  • Josh Donaldson (R)
  • David Freese (R)
  • Shortstop
  • J.J. Hardy (R)
  • Andrew Romine (S)
  • Left Field
  • Andrew McCutchen (R)
  • Center Field
  • Brett Gardner (L)
  • Austin Jackson (R)
  • Right Field
  • Jay Bruce (L)
  • Starting Pitcher
  • John Lester (L)
  • Marcus Stroman (R)
  • Drew Pomeranz (L)
  • Brandon McCarthy (R)
  • Zack Godley (R)
  • Relief Pitcher
  • Pedro Strop (R)
  • Ryan Butcher (L)
  • Matt Barnes (R)
  • Justin Wilson (L)
  • Jim Johnson (R)
  • Kris Medlen (R)
  • Closer
  • Brad Brach (R)

Lineup
2B Kingery (R)
CF Gardner (L)
3B Donaldson (R)
1B Votto (L)
LF McCutchen (R)
RF Bruce (L)
C Flowers (R)
SS Hardy (R)

**Side Note - I drafted McCutchen in the 4th round, and switched his position to LF after the draft. Gardner was also position changed to CF manually.**

Top Ten Prospects

1: SP Chance Adams (R) 23 years old / 65 Overall / A potential
2: SS Kevin Newman (R) 24 years old / 65 Overall / B Potential
3: SP Miguel Almonte (R) 24 years old / 64 Overall / B Potential
4: 3B Drew Ellis (R) 22 years old / 62 Overall / B Potential
5: RF Austin Slater (R) 25 years old / 62 Overall / B Potential
6: SS Chesney Young (R) 25 years old / 65 Overall / C Potential
7: SP Mitchell White (R) 23 years old / 61 Overall / B Potential
8: SP Garrett Williams (L) 23 years old / 60 Overall / B Potential
9: CF Steven Duggar (L) 24 years old / 63 Overall / B Potential
10: CF Dustin Fowler (L) 23 years old / 58 Overall / C Potential

**Overall we failed to draft any "Prime-Time" prospects, aside from Scott Kingery, who I chose to not count as he is on the opening day roster, and locked up until the end of time. This is an interesting group though, and I like where we are at going forward.**

Key Minor Leaguers
SP Nate Karns (R)
SP Wade LeBlanc (L)
SP Kyle Gibson (R)
RP Sam Dyson (R)
RP Matt Harvey (R) *
RP Tim Lincecum (R) *
2B Phil Gosselin (R)
2B Brock Holt (L)
LF Mikie Mahtook (R)
RF Hernan Perez (R)

* Both Matt Harvey, as well as Tim Lincecum were drafted in the later rounds (50-60 I believe). After the draft I edited Harvey's position to RP, which greatly dropped his rating. Never the less he will be the set-up man in AAA, in hopes I can move him into the big league pen as the season progresses. Both of these pitchers will be story-line type guys in the minors for me.

Outlook

Well, overall I would give myself a solid B on this draft. The first season looks to be the most important, as we have a ton of veteran players (2/3 of the outfield as well as our 3b will all be free agents at years end). The minor league system looks pretty decent at this point, although there are no big time prospects to fill in any holes that may incur during free agency. With that said, I am SUPER excited to get things going with this team.

One last thing, the CPU provided these ratings for the team:
Overall: 1st
Pitching: 5th
Defense: 7th
Speed: 22nd
Contact: 13th
Power: 11th

Season Opener

The Mets open up the year at home, against the Cardinals, and it doesn't look like it will be easy, as the Red Birds boast a formidable rotation. That being said, if we can get into their bullpen, we may be able to exploit it.

Game 1: John Lester (L) vs Stephen Strausburg (R)
Game 2: Marcus Stroman (R) vs David Price (L)
Game 3: Drew Pomeranz (L) vs Cole Hamels (L)

Cardinals Lineup
CF Dee Gordon (L)
SS Xander Bogaerts (R)
1B Eric Hosmer (L)
LF Kris Davis (R)
C Yadier Molina (R)
3B Martin Prado (R)
RF Kyle Tucker (L)
2B Glyber Torres (R)

Looks like it should be a pretty fun squad to roll with. First impression, in my opinion of course, is that you seem to be missing the obvious 1-2 “cornerstone” players. Aside from Benintendi and maybe Josh Hader? Those guys stand out as big pieces to me of the franchise.

Anyway, team still looks good

Re: Official MLB The Show 18 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Well, I just played my first game.

I won 4-0. Was going for the shutout with Robbie Ray and he tore his rotator cuff 1st pitch into the 9th inning. He’s out over 6 months, sigh lol. Josh Bell went 4-4 with a RBI and Austin Hedges went 1-4 with a 3 run homer.
